Inflation here? gas/grocery prices just continue to climb (5 Viewers)

It was the most damaging thing they could have done to both inflation and the markets.

I think they honestly believed themselves when they said it was "transitory".

Doesnt help when those same decision makers live with means that eclipse that of 99.5% of the rest of the country. I started this thread in Oct when it was clear things were angling up.

Now if yall will excuse me- im going to walk to lunch since i dont want to pay an extra $5 to get there. lol

It varies from one season to the next and one week to the next. Really hard to say on average. Last year I was part of Netflix and BBC documentaries and went all out. I put 30,000 miles on my car in 6 weeks.

I just bought a Rav4 hyrbid and it should effectively double my MPG but I really needed something bigger for my equipment so now I'm dumping about $15k into it the mod work and outfitting in order to maximize MPG and cargo space. That's about $7k more than normal. My fuel gets paid for but I want to make sure it stays that way so it's why I'm making the change.
that is crazy.

First clue is when SUV and trucks suddenly start losing value on the used car market. You will start seeing 0% 72 months financing and SUVs start suddenly being offered below MSRP. That's usually the first sign it's having a big enough impact to change people's behavior. When it's changing behavior then it's eating into expendable income.
I dont guess we are there yet, my co-worker back in November bought a the small Lexus SUV (2021) for 41k, salesman who is a family friend called last week and offered 57k, said the demand (Dallas) for SUV's is out of the roof.

We aren't but gas prices have gone up 30% since last week so that could change really fast. Plus car demand is so backed up that you can't exactly just go a buy a car.

Yea, I fully expect the SUV market this week to look like an absolute crash compared to last week.

I have an employee saying if reguar gas in this area goes over $5 a gallon, he's quitting because he won't be able to afford the gas.
I understand he only makes $17hr. But an extra $40 week seems better than -$550ish a week. I guess I don't understand his math.
I'm sure he's just talking snack, but you can never tell how crazy some people are..

One of my therapists is going to have to find a job closer to her home. She commutes 55 miles each way and the gas bill is killing her. She's first going to try trading her SUV to her daughter for her daughter's Prius. Daughter has only 10 min commute to work and only fills up every 3 weeks :hihi:

Maybe he's hoping this news will get him a raise.

My sister says that her fuel bill equals about $1.59 per hour. She's trying to find a work from home job. I think that it'll have to become more common, and we may need to move to a four day work week.

I guess it makes sense if he has a long commute

Give him a raise so he can afford the raise in prices?

If it was up to me, they all would get one.

He does have like a 40 mile drive. But quitting a job without another one doesn't save you money. We already work a 4-10 schedule.

It would be nice if carpooling and public transportation were more widely available and culturally accepted.

I'm sure carpooling took a big hit during Covid and suspect it's not going to come back to the same levels as before anytime soon. There should be more options for public transportation, but I don't know that state and local governments are going to do what it takes to make it truly viable for a wider number of people. When I return to working in the office, I'll be taking the metro again.
