Inflation here? gas/grocery prices just continue to climb (5 Viewers)

I have flat hobbit feet, so I had to relearn how to run (as I was killing my feet). To bring us back on course with inflation…my Brooks Beast shoes haven’t gone up in price.
Yeah, athletic shoes are expensive. Have been for years. I imagine they're getting worse.

I love that my current company has a benefit for 'healthy rewards'. If you buy running shoes, they'll reimburse half of the cost (up to $250). So, unless you're buying running shoes over $500, it's half off. Which, if you are doing that, we need to talk about priorities... and delusions of being a better athlete. haha.

I have always been a value shopper and not a person who has to have name brands, so when it comes to groceries, my bill hasn't gone up much.
I also use the Getupside App for gas, its not a lot, but i usually get 10 cents a gallon cash back. I started it in Janurary, I fill up like once every 10 days, so i have gotten about $40 in the account right now.

was he running on his tip toes? that run seemed quite awkward... Was he running towards the employee? running towrds the store doesn't seem to be the best escape route..
If i'm choosing political battles, thats not one i'm willing to go to jail for..
There is a condition that causes you to walk on your tiptoes, can't remember the name of it, but my youngest son has a mild form of it. He walks mainly on his tiptoes all the time.

You need to move haha
No thanks. It is pricey here BUT the weather is mild, the beach is great and within a 10 min to 3 hour drive you have beach, mountains, desert and a foreign country.

I hate the cold. I'll pay more to live here until I get sick of it. I do go back and forth with "I love it here" to "this is not sustainable long term" but until I'm really forced into having to decide, I'm staying put.

I paid 3.45/gal at Costco the other day.

Willie Roaf did that too but I think I read back in the day he did it intentionally to strengthen his calves and it just kinda stuck.

In lieu of raises, my union negotiated a 3.5% bonus this year. I’m represented by idiots. 🤦‍♂️

One thing that has changed for the worse since the 70s is our ability to (meaningfully) raise interest rates to curb inflation. I know the Fed is starting to take small nibbles at it but the impact on federal debt payments for every hike is so huge I don't think they will be able to go very far. We borrowed trillions and trillions based on the expectations of forever-zero rates -not sure we can really absorb the ballooning payments that come with even 5-10% interest rates much less the 18-20% we saw back then.

I doubt we ever see a federal funds rate above 5% again. For every 1% increase in rates there is a 10% decrease in home prices. Rates have been near zero since 2008 for the most part. Will homeowners tolerate a 20% drop in value for a 2% rate hike, maybe. A 4% increase would NOT work. That was the amount rates went up between the 2001 dot com bubble and the 2008 housing crisis before falling to zero for most of the last 15 years.

It's not totally wrong. Modern shoes are designed for people falling on their heels, but if you look at good runners, they're on the balls of their feet. The heels may touch, but it's not the primary contact point.

anyway, bit of a rabbit hole I'm taking us on in an inflation thread..lol.
Yes it's a rabbit hole, but it makes this forum great. I ran track in HS. Sprinters were trained to run on the balls of their
feet. Heel contact was a no no because it slowed them down .

During negotiations for the contract with my employer, I had a doctor's appointment scheduled on a day when we were supposed to have been finished. I left with about a half hour remaining. As I was driving I got a call about"great news!"

Those who stuck around were excited to have negotiated a $5,000 signing bonus. I said "Wow! It was like pulling teeth to get the raises, and you managed that in a half hour?"

They gave away the first year's raise in exchange. 🤨

I was, and am, furious. A napkin, pen, and a remedial knowledge of math should have been enough to shut that down.

If a company states that it's their final offer, we have to present it for a vote. I begged the members to vote no so that I could get the first year's raise back. The response that I got was "when do we get the money."

Now, everybody criticizes the contract and says that we (the union) screwed them. Nobody admits to voting for it.

Vote no if you don't like it.

I was on the negotiating committee for a very tense and dramatically shifting contract and it was amazing how little effort some people made to understand just how crappy the proposals from management were.

We wound up salvaging somewhat decent raises, but lost on the very, very big ticket item because of much the same attitudes you describe.

I would've thought the company (and I use that term very loosely) would never do what they did because (a) they didn't need to and (b) it kinda goes against the very nature of what they do and what they stand for.

My union did an excellent job I have to say. The district wanted a multi year deal, we only went for a one year 6%. Everyone around was crowing about how they got 10% over the next 3 but we settled for a one year 6. But, as our leadership pointed out COLA due to inflation will be significantly higher than 2% next year. So, we should be doing very well.
