Ingram benched [OLD THREAD BUMPED] (1 Viewer)

He costs the team games with his turnovers. He's not a special player.
No brainier move by coach

This is what people need to realize about ingrams ball security...it's not ONLY about how many times he fumbles (which isn't that often) it's WHEN he fumbles, that makes him unreliable. His fumbles happen at worst time and always seem to kill a drive when we are driving to get back into a game or put it away, etc. I think this is what people are actually talking about when they say he has fumbling problems.

The bottom line with Ingram is that he is not a special back. He is a tough, durable, slashing runner but without a real feel for the running lanes and lacks the vision to break away from the designed play. When he fumbled, it is an easy choice to bench him as long as Hightower and Lasco are healthy.

Ingram is a hard worker and good RB but I think Hightower is the better RB right now and best for the team. Tim is very underrated and really has excellent vision

It's all about the eye test and this year it's clear that Hightower is the superior back.

He should stay there. I'm serious.

He's just not special enough to shoe-horn back into the lineup.

We are in agreement. I thought Hightower brought more balance to the offense last year and expected him to be the starter this season.

Agreed. Hightower's always been underrated. Any show of weakness from the guy ahead of him on the chart puts Tim in a position to shine.

Run him while we can, staple a "BALL SECURITY" sign to Mark's head, and let gameflow determine how to use them moving forward.

Payton's not trading him, especially after what he said in the press conference. So, time to get used to a committee for awhile.
I missed the press conference stuck in the quagmire leaving the Dome. What did Coach say?

Hightower just has better vision and patience than Ingram. Those holes that he hit didn't appear miraculously. Hightower just had the patience to let those lanes open up.

Payton basically said Ingram was tough and thick skinned and he'll bounce back. He didn't throw Ingram under the bus and basically he stuck with the hot hand. Also, not turning the ball over was a big point of emphasis this week. He also said Hightower had a real tough, gutsy performance.

The problem with Ingram is that he plays an easily replaceable position so much so that a player three years out the league can come in behind him and out up 100yrd performances, I think k for what I team is its what he's not that's holding this offense back and that's a player with the skeed to get around the edge and hit the hole up the middle...he's a plodder.

Mojo summed it up nicely. I'm just disappointed that Ingram's not able to replicate last season, when he was getting half the carries (I'm roughly estimating here), yet setting the turf on fire.

I don't know what it is, but maybe a committee and Hightower getting his shot to run wild will do Ingram some good. The whole "trade him/cut him/bench him permanently" stuff is overblown. He got benched the game for that fumble and Payton's ready to work with him moving forward.
