It's Official - Reconciliation It Is (2 Viewers)

Maybe, but at least the country will be better off.

how do you figure? This bill is weak... don't think that it is, in any way, shape or form, Universal Health Care.

i honestly don't know what will hurt the Dems more-- passing this bill which will make lots of people  because they'll think it's UHC... or scrapping the whole thing and saying 'Nevermind, we can't get it done' which will make them look weak... either way, the American people lose.

i recently registered as a democrat after years of being a republican/independent.

i'm ashamed to admit that, with the way this is transpiring. i guess it's back to I or R for me. way to go, Obammer!

i switched from Democrat to Independent a few years back when Bush was President and the Democrats won Congress, but refused to end the Iraq War.

Maybe, but at least the country will be better off.

Some things are more important than party to some of us.

I'll give Obama his props if he gets this through. He's stuck to his guns about it and hasn't wavered on trying to get it passed even though it's become unpopular among the public. I admire that quality in someone.

Bush was much in the same vein, especially in regards to the war in Iraq.

I switched from R to NPA a year or so ago mainly because of Bush's massive spending increases and the mishandling of the war in Iraq.

The way I see it, the sooner it's passed, the sooner people will see it's all "fluff". Very expensive fluff, but fluff nonetheless.

He's stuck to his guns about it and hasn't wavered on trying to get it passed

He's given up a lot to get to this point - I think he's made a number of concessions when I didn't think he should have, principally. Practically speaking is another matter. But there's a lot of proverbial guns he's thrown down and each one left with is smaller and less powerful than the previous one.

Now he's stuck with a peashooter and we're stuck with a bill I have less faith in than the promise I had when health care was first proposed.

GOP wins back House and Senate in November if Dems pass this on reconciliation.
Wishful thinking on your part.

If the Dems *dont* get healthcare passed by November, the Republicans win back more seats than if they do.

Or have you forgotten that the GOP gameplan was to obstruct healthcare all along, and to NEVER be bi-partisan about it, regardless?
If we're able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo

-Jim DeMint

Gee, doesnt sound to me like they EVER planned on passing ANY healthcare, and that they ALWAYS planned to block it no matter what.

Maybe, but at least the country will be better off.
How so? We have less individual freedom than ever, slaves to the insurance companies. All because your political heroes won't try to address the fundamental problems with our healthcare system because they don't want to lose their precious campaign funds.

Some things are more important than party to some of us.
That's a total crock. The healthcare bill is in the weak but combersome form it is because congress, and blue/red-homers like you, put party over people.

Allright. Call me young and ignorant, lemme hear from ya.

Maybe...but then again, we do have short attention spans. What sounds like a sure-fire loss now could turn into a big win in November. In 6 months it could be "in a few more months they won't be able to deny coverage on pre-existing conditions and nearly all combat troops are home from Iraq...sounds good for me" plus whatever else gets done once health care is out of the way.

People will vote their pocketbooks in November. If the economy picks up Dems win.....if not R's win.
This.

If the DOW is still up, unemployment gets below 9%, the economy keeps improving, combat troops are out of Iraq, and healthcare has been passed, the Democrats will not lose too many seats.

"We were on the brink of the biggest economic crash since the Great Depression,in 2 wars without an end in sight, and at risk of the banking and auto industries crashing. Since then, we've brought home all combat troops from one front, stabilized the economy, passed credit card reform, stabilized banks, passed financial reform*, kept 2 major automakers from collapsing, and also passed healthcare reform that doesnt impact medicare, doesnt raise the deficit, and covers over 30million more Americans while at the same time keeping premiums lower than they would have been had we done nothing, as well as assuring that people cant be dropped from coverage for making a claim or denied coverage for pre-existing conditions"

Yeah, for 1.5 years in office? Sounds like Obama's doing a pretty decent job considering the unprecedented obstructionism and hatred he's been facing. Has he done everything perfectly? No, of course not. Theres TONS of stuff I wish he had handled better. But for what he's had to deal with, I'm giving him a B so far.

And for years 3 and 4? Will we see immigration reform? Environmental reform? A new push towards better infrastructure and technology? And years 5-8? What then?

For someone who "hasnt done anything" he sure has done a lot.

(* financial reforms I think are coming up in a few weeks, but they should be passing)

How do I neg-repped for saying I changed my party affiliation to no party affiliation?

Anyway, I think it's fairly safe to say regardless of what happens, the GOP will pick up a significant number of seats in both the House and Senate. I personally think that if reconciliation is used to pass a massive overhaul of a system that makes up nearly 20% of our GDP then the Dems pay for it more dearly in November.

Not really wishful thinking, more like realistic thinking. I'm not gonna lie, I think the Dems are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Sucky place to be, but it's where they're at right now.

And I'm all up for conspiracy theories about the GOP doing whatever they can to obstruct healthcare, but with the popularity of the bill in the toilet I think it's a pretty safe call on their part.

Mark my words... They will cross the " ethics line" in trying to persuade the last few dem reps to vote for this. Those guys know they will lose in nov if the switch their votes. The dem leaders will have to buy their votes with personal interests because that is the only way you can do it. The powerful will fall over this!!!

Dont forget: Almost half of the "unpopularity" is from liberals who think the bill doesnt go far enough. Like theyre really going to vote 'R' in November?

Like I said, passing an imperfect bill, then working to fix it is more beneficial for Democratic chances in November than having the entire thing blow up and fail, because then it makes it look like Republicans won.

In the former scenario, at least those liberals who disapprove of the bill will begin swinging back towards approval as fixes are sent in. But in the latter scenario, those upset liberals will just stay home from the polls, or vote 3rd party.

Just because the bill's popularity is "in the toilet" doesnt mean that 100% who dislike it are going to vote Republican.
