Jenkins missed practice with an ankle issue, which led to the fan interaction that ended up getting him the waived/injured designation. He went on I.R. in 2017 with an ankle injury, so I feel like they're going to want to make sure that ankle is as close to 100% as they can get it for the post season. Assuming it was a legit injury and not just a way to express his discontent with how the Giants were using him on defense.
He went on a bit of a tirade about how Bettcher (Giants' defensive coordinator) wasn't letting him play the way he's best at, which he feels is shadowing the other team's best receiver. His quote is pretty fantastic, and should be made into a t-shirt or something. "I play on the left side of the field all game,” Jenkins said. “I get two passes a game. C’mon bro. Everybody in the league who has a top corner, they travel. Rabbit don’t travel no more.”
So, assuming his ankle needs a bit of rest, my prediction is that he's going to be in the film room and doing low impact level walk-throughs this week with the unit, and most likely will be in street clothes at Tennessee.
Then some normal work in the week leading up to Carolina, and should see a decent number of snaps in that game, regardless of how the seeding process unfolds.
And in the playoffs, I see him either starting opposite Lattimore, or they assign him the number two or three option in the opponent's passing game and just let him (hopefully) shut him down, while Lattimore and Apple continue to play their respective sides, with some help shading over towards Apple's side of the field more frequently.
Essentially, I see them working on a "Big Dime" style scheme much of the time here. With four down linemen, Demario Davis at linebacker, Bell and Gardner-Johnson as safety-linebacker hybrids, Lattimore and Apple as corners, Jenkins as a "roamer", and Williams as the deep safety. The amount of play specific flexibility that would offer is astounding. And it is the only defense that I can think of that slowed down Baltimore (San Diego in last year's wild card round).
