Jenkins missed practice with an ankle issue, which led to the fan interaction that ended up getting him the waived/injured designation. He went on I.R. in 2017 with an ankle injury, so I feel like they're going to want to make sure that ankle is as close to 100% as they can get it for the post season. Assuming it was a legit injury and not just a way to express his discontent with how the Giants were using him on defense.

He went on a bit of a tirade about how Bettcher (Giants' defensive coordinator) wasn't letting him play the way he's best at, which he feels is shadowing the other team's best receiver. His quote is pretty fantastic, and should be made into a t-shirt or something. "I play on the left side of the field all game,” Jenkins said. “I get two passes a game. C’mon bro. Everybody in the league who has a top corner, they travel. Rabbit don’t travel no more.”

So, assuming his ankle needs a bit of rest, my prediction is that he's going to be in the film room and doing low impact level walk-throughs this week with the unit, and most likely will be in street clothes at Tennessee.
Then some normal work in the week leading up to Carolina, and should see a decent number of snaps in that game, regardless of how the seeding process unfolds.

And in the playoffs, I see him either starting opposite Lattimore, or they assign him the number two or three option in the opponent's passing game and just let him (hopefully) shut him down, while Lattimore and Apple continue to play their respective sides, with some help shading over towards Apple's side of the field more frequently.

Essentially, I see them working on a "Big Dime" style scheme much of the time here. With four down linemen, Demario Davis at linebacker, Bell and Gardner-Johnson as safety-linebacker hybrids, Lattimore and Apple as corners, Jenkins as a "roamer", and Williams as the deep safety. The amount of play specific flexibility that would offer is astounding. And it is the only defense that I can think of that slowed down Baltimore (San Diego in last year's wild card round).

Yes he will eventually take Eli Apple spot during the playoffs because he gone mess up. I don't believe they'll use him in the slot because it has not been victimized as bad as the boundary. I believe they'll play Janoris Jenkins this Sunday rotating he and Eli Apple to get him comfortable with the scheme

most of the game is played in the nickel. I think you’ll see all 3 out there a lot.
I heard this morning that he's taken a ridiculous majority of his snaps as a boundary corner. So much so that the reporter said he doesn't see him playing in the slot for us at all. That means he'll be depth behind Apple while learning the nuances of the scheme and will compete for the starting job by the playoffs, IMO.

I agree with this whole premise, but I think Lattimore would be the better roamer than Jenkins - especially with Jenkins coming off an injury.

Agreed, if we're talking about the best receiver. But, say we play the Vikings in the first round of the playoffs. You have to account for Diggs and Thielen. Probably best for Lattimore and Apple/Williams to handle whichever one ends up on their side of the ball. Then Jenkins would need to lock down whoever is lined up as the third on the line option, while Gardner-Johnson/Bell make sure Cook doesn't kill them. My uneducated perspective is that having "Rabbit" eliminate one option completely would be the best way to get him involved at such a late date.

Apple hasn't even played below average in the last 6 weeks. It’s been a while since he was playing well. He played pretty solid the first 6 weeks

@efrohnap66 how can you meh the truth? I’m not saying he is TERRIBLE and can’t be an asset. But it’s absolutely the truth that he’s been HORRIBLE the last month. Here, want some proof

I only say this because Jenkins (reportedly, according to talking heads on Fox 8 this morning) has played like 95% of his snaps at DB as an outside corner and I think Lattimore has the speed and hips to play the slot which he'd be doing as a roamer type DB covering third receiver wherever he lines up.

PFF says he is rated 64.4...NOT good

If you’ve watched the Giants over the last 4 years you know Jenkins is one of the best pure coverage corners in the league. He doesn’t care too much for a whole lot of playing the run game, but his coverage skills aren’t second to many.

He had at least 3 interceptions in 3 out of 4 years in NY and has 4 this year. Yes, that rating shows he hasn’t been as good, but does it factor in that he’s played hurt and has played on one of the worst defenses that we’ve seen over the last couple seasons?

Not even a little chance of that. Apple has played well, despite what some very narrow minded or non observant wannabe critics have stated.

Not even close. I think the opinions on Apple are based on actual observation of game action over the past few weeks. It is quite apparent he is struggling; committing PI and holding. I agree he was very solid in the first half the season but over the past few weeks teams have targeted him with success. Not sure why and that can be debated. It can also be debated that JJ was brought in to unseat Apple, or it is perhaps a move to just get better like all teams try to do, especially in prep for the post season. "Narrow minded" and "non-observant"? Come on.

The secret is out. Even the announcers reference how teams will test Apple. And, teams are having success. I think Jenkins has an opportunity to come in and start over Apple.

Jenkins, Apple, Lattimore, and Gardner-johnson give us the very best group of CBs in the league. When Bell is healthy, we have the best secondary in the league. Apple isn't going anywhere.
You wanna lay a wager on this take?

Jenkins is starting over Apple just as he did with the Giants he’s the better CB what we’re debating about is beyond me it’s exactly what happened to Crawley is about to happen to Apple.

We cannot go into the Playoffs with 2 Below avg playing cornerbacks . It stretches the defense to thin , which takes M.Williams out of play

PJ. Williams by he plays the slot will continue to start and will be picked on unless he steps up.

I wouldn’t mind switching to 3 Safeties and 2 CBs in the nickel as we did in 2017 and 2016 either.

This is it it’s now or never and you can’t sit back and be satisfied with mediocrity or poor play especially with the loss of Davenport And Rankins to the passrush We need CBs who can cover
