Janoris Jenkins (1 Viewer)

Jenkins is 31 and by many accounts trending down. That's a red flag to me. I didn't like the Coleman signing for that reason. Granted I like this "signing" because there is no risk. The big Jenkins believers will just have to excuse me when I say I have to see it to believe it and I don't think he's the future.

Except he’s not.

That's a good sign but I don't put all my faith in CB stats. They are very deceiving like tackles for LBs. There are probably other stats to dig into further, film grades and I also value the opinion of the team/fans/reporters he came from. All of those are subjective to me but useful. Several of them tell a different story.

Giants fans I talk to say he’s still very good.

PFF is very flawed. There are a lot of assumptions involved. They have Lattimore as average and Marcus Williams as elite.

Jenkins is still very good.

Jenkins is still very good.

Before the whole twitter thing, the reports from the Giants were that they were going to cut Jenkins because he wasn't performing up to his contract.

PFF is no more flawed than looking at raw stats.

The stats actually put Lattimore as average and Williams as an elite free safety. In this case, PFF is probably closer to your opinion than the stats.

Apple hasn't even played below average in the last 6 weeks. It’s been a while since he was playing well. He played pretty solid the first 6 weeks

There are people who just will never give Apple his due. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard the announcer say ‘Apple has great coverage but the receiver made a fantastic catch.

then he plays opposite Lattimore so he is the one people go after. Unless a team has two shut down corners, the other will look bad by comparison. NO team in the NFLhas two shut down corners.

with Lattimore on the other side J Jenkins will be the one they go after. He will play well if healthy, but he will not shutdown the other side. Whoever a team targets, that corner will get some ball caught on them. And they will get some penaltiescalled on them. That is the nature of playing cornerback in the league with the current rules and these inconsistent refs. Period

What you have in mind?
It would center around a wager that Jenkins would eventually be the #2 corner, not Apple. Jenkins is a top 5 CB in the league, worthy of shadowing the WR1. The beauty of it is now he just has to guard the WR2.

With PJ banged up, Bell banged up, P-Rob banged up, CGJ a rookie, and Apple getting burnt, sliced, flagged, fried, and diced...
We need DB help however we can get it.

Whatever Jenkins "is" at this time, I think he's WAY WAY WAY better than any DB any of us even even dared dream we'd be able to pick up two weeks before the playoffs.

In Dennis Allen's scheme, we often like to have a lot of DBs on the field and there isn't really all that much difference between strong safety and slot corner.

And regardless how we line them up or who we start where and when... losing a starting corner in the playoffs could mean an early exit. Having an Eli Apple or Janoris Jenkins to come off the bench could mean a championship.

They weren’t going to cut him for performance. They were considering cutting him because they spent four high draft picks on young defensive backs and wanted to get them reps since they were out of contention and were on the hook for $11.5 for him next year.

And yet they still hadn’t cut him because he was so much better than anyone else in their defensive backfield.

Janoris Jenkins is a Legit #1 CB.... he may be 31, but he has still got minimum a year or 2 of top level performance.

This signing was unbelievable to me because of the skills that Jenkins provides this late in the season.

Wow..this could be the difference. He is currently ranked that #7 ranked CB by Nextgen Stats while not "the bible" that is a positive sign.

Anybody who knows CB play should be able to vew JJ on the field and see his cat like quickness and aggressiveness in coverage. We got a straight DOGG now to pair with Latt....meanin this kid will not run scared for any reciever on the field.

Now, Apple tends to play scared/too soft at times and he is a longer less fast twitch CB... Apple is a "good" #2 AT TIMES...Apple is NOT a DOGG (Lattimore uses this term alot, so don't hate)
