Joe Brady withdraws from Saints HC search (41 Viewers)

Well, at least McCarthy is still interested. But, I do find it odd that they aren't going to interview him until after they interview Moore. I wonder what the reasoning is for that?

And as much as I think that McCarthy is the best choice at this point to rebuild the roster, maybe Moore is a better option than I think? Or maybe Moore is a good option if the coaching search has made Loomis realize he has to tear it all down and start over with a younger roster and a young QB?

I see this as Brady knows he is not the front runner and not interested in the mere prospect of the hiring process. Now on the other hand if MM backs out then we are in trouble. If we move quickly to hire MM then the cat was just out of the bag.

Yep. And I don't think Rizzi has the talent evaluation skills to make up for Loomis' deficiencies in that department. So even if you get good draft picks with Rizzi, he will mostly blow them.

Why do you think that Rizzi isn't that good at talent evaluation? I would think a special teams guys would be good at that, but I honestly don't know.

Because he's been a special teams coach for years and has no experience with the process and no track record. I guess he could be some savant that is just somehow is great at it, but it seems very unlikely given that lack of experience and him being focused on special teams.

There's no good way to spin it. We hear about coaches declining jobs from teams like the Raiders. I'm struggling to think of a time when a coach declined a second interview for a good team. Especially for someone so young, at worst you get interview experience.
Maybe he knows McCarthy is the one the Saints want, and doesn't feel like going to the dance to be a wallflower?

If McCarthy refuses an interview, then I’ll join the gloom-and-doomers. Some of the refusal for interviews is attributable to the well known assumption that McCarthy is the team’s choice. It’s like the situation in NE with Vrabel and the Jets with Glenn.

I'd wager the reason these guys are passing is because they all want someone else to be the "fall guy" for the Saints cap sins and aging roster. Once the Saints clear the cap and the new HC doesn't have a tier 3 at best QB with a tier 1 cap hit, I bet they'd all love to work for a franchise with a GM who does whatever is needed to sign the guys the Head Coach wants and an Owner who just wants to sign checks and smile for charities.

The fact Underhill had this article ready to go for this moment says a lot.
