N/S Justin Fields traded to the Steelers for a conditional 6th round pick (2 Viewers)

DA will not allow anyone to disturb his favorite player.
Fields wouldn't come close to beating out Carr. It'd be a waste of a draft pick and cap space for a one-year rental for a player who doesn't fit the system.

Look at the QBs Kubiak has worked with. They are all high-completion percentage guys who thrive on play-action. Fields is the opposite of that.

Justin Fields is terrible. The Saints trading for him would make no sense.

He doesn’t even begin to fit what Kubiak wants to do. Trey Lance washed out in SF for a reason.
Coming out of college, Fields was a much better passer than Lamar Jackson, although raw. Because Lamar Jackson has great coaching, his coach saw what was needed for him to succeed in the NFL, so he scrapped the offense that they had in place for Flacco and in the 2019 draft, the Ravens put on a master class in building in the draft. That season, Lamar Jackson won MVP and the Ravens won the AFC North. Take from that story what you will...

Lamar is way more talented than Fields. It’s not all coaching.

I think this trade is absurd. He had more value than what Chicago received. Atlanta and Baltimore seemed good landing spots. Were I the Bears, I would have kept him and allowed him to compete.
Well, since teams in the process of trying to trade players go through that process with the intention of getting as much value as they can, clearly the market disagreed with you.

If someone wanted him more, they would have offered more. Teams don't just call one other team and then say, 'A conditional sixth? Sounds fair, let's not even bother to make any other calls. Get the paperwork into the league and let's go for lunch.'

As a passer coming out of college, no he wasn't and you are lying to yourself if you believe that he was. Fields was raw but he was a much better passer than Lamar Jackson was. Lamar Jackson was much more dynamic but Fields was the better passer. Anybody that watched college football would tell you that.

It's just part of his extended straw man for why a certain Saint failed to keep a starting gig. Pay it no mind.
Go learn football..lol

I went to the UH/Louisville game Lamar’s senior year. He had zero pass protection. So…yeah i watch college football. If Lamar had played at Ohio State with Chris Olave and Garret Wilson with a running game and protection he would have proven himself to be better than Fields.

I wouldn't say much better passer. Lamar led the ACC in passing yards his final year in Louisville, absolutely unbelieveable rushing stats notwithstanding. The fact he fell so far in the draft is crazy. I really thought when I saw we traded up to 14 that year we were taking him. But *sigh* we obviously didn't.

If anything Fields benefitted in the draft from having a QB like Lamar having so much success in the league. Also worth stating that the Ravens changed their whole offensive scheme to fit Lamar's game, something the Bears never really did for Fields. But it's been three years with Fields as starter and he hasn't shown anything that suggests he can be the guy.

I think this is a part of the league that people don't understand. There are 32 teams, everybody knows EVERYBODY else. When it's time for a transaction to occur, you figure most teams have a "do not call list" composed of the three other teams in their division and maybe a very short list of other rivals that they might not do business with. Now, let's say the Bears put it out on the NFL grapevine that they will be trading Fields. This wasn't a "might" trade when they eventually take a conditional 6th, it's a....we ARE trading this guy, so bring your offers now. So, 28 teams at most are in play. Bears say, call us soon. These 28 teams look at Fields and what, 80% say...nope, not even worth a 7th rounder. Maybe one team says, we'll trade you a conditional 7th, another says, we will trade you a guy who is our second punter and the Steelers say....conditional 6th and Bears say....SOLD!

The other teams knew what was happening, they all basically said nope. Same as when Saints shipped that "safety" who shall not be named to Philly. You don't think word got around to the other NFL teams and none of them wanted him for more?

These things don't happen in a vacuum. The Bears wouldn't trade Fields to the Vikings, Lions or Packers for a 5th, but you can be sure, no other teams actually offered a 5th for him. Sure, somebody like Sean Payton will say in 3 years that they would have given the Bears a 5th if they had "known" he was available if he lights it up, but no...... the "NFL" insiders knew he was available and nobody wanted him.
