Lets talk Williams (1 Viewer)

Williams is a nice addition in terms of leadership, experience, hard nosed running, pass blocking, etc. In spite of scoring 17 rushing TD's last year, the Lions were happy to let him go and sign Montgomery. Williams was in the right place at the right time last year. He's not the back a lot of people think he is. The stats were misleading.

Our OL woes certainly didn't help, but he's an average back that brings a lot of valuable intangibles.
Simply not true. Dan Campbell didn’t want to let him go at all, and the GM didn’t either. They offered him the same deal Montgomery got. The only reason they even offered Montgomery was because Williams was taking a while to decide and they didn’t want to lose out on both him and Montgomery.

I’m not saying you’re wrong about him being an average back or anything like that, but the Lions tried to bring him back and certainly weren’t happy to let him go. No matter if Williams felt they low balled him or not.

I guess it's pretty much my fault I had high expectations, With AK out this was his time to shine, Other then the last play of the game which he fumbled on he showed me nothing no wiggle at all.
I wish they would not have let Merriweather go , honestly I think he should be starting till AK comes back , call me crazy but I loved the way he ran , just my 2 cents . Truly think he would be great for the team , running & catching .

That's not his game. He's not an explosive play waiting to happen. He's just a steady pro who is going to do his job. He's not going to put up huge numbers but he's going to do things to help the team win that don't show up on the box score.

And just in general, this offense isn't conducive to RBs putting up huge rushing numbers. We haven't had a thousand yard rusher since 2017. As good as AK is, his 100 yard games are few and far between. Now with these weapons stretching the field/creating space and a healthy O line, theoretically there should be more room to operate in the run game. It's going to be hard for Pete to commit to the ground game now that he has Carr and a bunch of dudes to throw to. We'll see.

He has no real wiggle or speed, he's the perfect compliment back when your main runners are quick versatile players (Kamara and Miller).

Williams is the tough yardage and short yardage back and he has to take on a larger role today but if you were expecting anything different then your not familiar with his skillet.
Why are people hyping Miller when he has done nothing besides be hurt? He shouldn’t even be mentioned until he plays a game without getting hurt.

I could see if he had a great off season/pre season. But he was hurt and missed game one but yet people are crowning him already. Some even had him over AK and trading him away.
Mainly because of where he was drafted, and the interview he gave saying that he's looking to take the starting job. It's typical to take all of that and run with it.

You have to go off of what you see. Other than that catch that he had in preseason, I haven't seen anything else that jumps out at you about Miller.

With AK, you was able to tell pretty quick that he was going to be a good player.

I'd much rather people be patient and positive about these rookies than treat him like Ingram early on. Not all players develop and produce at the same rate. Some guys just need some time. We are way too fickle and impatient with these young guys.

Nothing wrong with being excited about a prospect especially one that showed enough in college to warrant it.

When we signed him, I wasn't really impressed. His highlights suggested that he was a short yardage back with no speed and minimal impact in the passing game. I didn't pay attention to the TC threads or highlights, but watching him in preseason confirmed my thoughts about it. The Oline was bad and Titans has a good run D, but don't expect much out of Williams.
Also Miller looks to be an exact clone of Williams, but I believe Miller has a bit more speed.

The Saints were terrible last year in short yardage. So, what do they do to fix that? They bring in one of the better short yardage RBs in the league last year. Williams is exactly what the Saints needed. He was never expected to be more than that. I don't know why that's hard to understand.

The only hate I remember Ingram receiving early on was due to the fact that you had better runners on the roster and Ingram was getting more carries than them. You could argue it's because he was a favorite, 1st round pick, etc.

Once those guys left and Ingram was the sole focus of the offense, we as fans had no choice but to pull for him. To his credit he ended up being a much better player later on down the line.

Typical SaintsReport post overblowing everything, I expected this thread to be created by David Robbins

Its 1 game, with a new team. Williams was never going to be the focal point of this offense. His usage is increased the first few weeks because of Kamara and Miller injuries. We could of done alot worse honestly.

This is just my personal opinion, but I wouldn't have paid $12 million for a short yardage back. Now if he was running like Jamal Anderson, I would be totally fine with that.
