London trip (1 Viewer)

We too are going. We already have tickets - bought the club level tickets with a code after signing up. We will probably be in London for a little over a week. We do have a hotel booked in the center of London, but is not sure if that is where we want to stay.

The exchange rate for us is actually better than last time we were in London and prices are somewhat comparable but expensive if compared to the US. If you stay for a number of days it pays of to buy a multiday transport ticket good for both the underground and the buses.

We'll also be at the game, but that's not my reason for posting. I live and work in London, so if anyone has any questions about the city or anything regarding their trip, please ask away. English, American, whatever - we're all part of the Who Dat nation.

A tip for anyone booking hotels at this stage - make sure you do it having at least looked at a map of the London Underground. While the Underground is user friendly you still don't want to be more than a couple of stops from either Wembley Park or Wembley Central. Oh and on the off chance anyone was thinking about hiring a car to get around - don't! Driving to Wembley on game-day is a nightmare.

Regarding specific hotels, the only one I've ever used in the area was the Wembley Plaza. A pretty standard Hilton but not cheap by US standards ($300 approx. per night) but it is right next to the stadium. Other than that I have heard the Fox and Goose isn't bad. It too is close to the stadium and much closer to $100 per night.

I will probably want to stay closer to downtown London and try to see some sights and then get out to Wembley on gameday...it looks like about 30 mins from downtown but I'm sure that's not gameday. What about the Mayfair of Grosvenor? are they close to the tube for Wembley? BTW, I have 5 season tickets, got the e-mail from the Saints today:

Dont know how to link to my email but here's a long paste:

I got my tickets already and have club seats and I need airfare. I hope that I can get some decent airfare. I am staying at the Quality Wembley the night before the game (Remember time changes that Saturday and the game is Sun) My hubby isnt going but he gave me a Saints jersey and a marker to get an autograph. I wonder if I can get to meet any otf the saints!

Okay - so, if I'm reading my email correctly, season ticket holders can log on tomorrow morning and buy seats? It doesn't have a time and there's no link yet under the London tab on the website. The only thing I can get to right now is the package website which I'm not interested. Anyone else have insight?

It says that flights are available as an additional item. It doesn't have details though.

Anyone find out where the players are staying? When I called the travel agency handling the package deals, the woman I spoke with couldn't even confirm that the players were staying at the same hotel. I have a call into DMI who will still be handling the travel for the Saints' personnel. If anyone already knows though, please fill me in!
Also, beware of the Saturday night party with "Saints celebrities"! I asked who the celebrities were and was told that some Saintsations and "maybe a couple of players."
Basically, I thought the packages were OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. Personally, I am not the least bit intersted in sitting down for a big meal at a fancy restaurant right before the game or spending extra money for champagne upon arrival. And all the packages excluded airfare!

My prices

I found it a bit high as well but here is a breakdown of my costs. I booked yesterday- Airfare for 2 $2170, hotel for 5 days in London (actually a small apartment near Bayswater) $700, hotel at Wembley on Sunday $125,
hotel at Heathrow before flight home $60 (great deal!) 2 tickets to Saints via ticketmaster in Club Wembley seats $500-

Total cost to see my Saints - PRICELESS LOL

Seriously, I go often and you have to do plenty of research to get a inexpensive hotel in a good area that is clean and close to the tube. Also, i am picky about my seats on plane and where the hib is, the layover time, and terminals. This took me over a month of heavy research.

Passport arrived yesterday! I can't believe it took only ten days for them to process it!
This trip is starting to look more and more real every day!
:D

Waiting for sistetr's passport, have mine ready. Going to Vegas for b day in may and then will concentrate on the big trip. Starting the countdown to London!:mwink:
