London trip (2 Viewers)

Got my tickets this morning! Now I just need plane tickets, hotel reservations, and a passport.

SaintG- try to get tickets soon so you can get the best seats, connections, etc. Also, let me know if you need advice as I travel there all the time and can advise you on areas to stay..

Got the plane tickets today. Not too bad $929....just 1 connection in Detroit.

London has about 5 airports, but by far the most US flights come into Heathrow, and its the closest big airport to the central part or the city.

Were flying into Gatwick, little bit farther out from the city, but the opportunity to use my FF miles on a nonstop flight was too good to pass up.

Got my hotel booked today.....Hilton London Olympia $107 on priceline (using name your own price feature).

We're flying into Gatwick and out of Heathrow. Kind of odd but it was 120 dollars cheaper per person than any other flight I was able to find.....and not bad with only 1 stop.

Wow is that 107.00 US??

If my math skills are right, thats stupid cheap about 55 GBP a night.

Good job!

Yep....that's dollars. I've done alot of looking over the past couple weeks. The cheapest 4 star hotel I could find close to the area we wanted to be in was the Hilton London Olympia for 150 on priceline and 178 on one of the other sites. I read some trip advisor reviews today and found people were getting it for 100-115/night. I did the name your own price at $85 and got a message back saying no but if you raise your price by $22 you can search again. I went up to $107 and got it.

Thanks for the info. Just entered $107 a night for a 4 star in Kensington and got a hotel room. $107 US is unheard of in London. I'm on the west side of Hyde Park, but only 5 minutes from the Tube.
That was the last piece of my puzzle. Thanks for the great tip.

Priceline adds taxes and fees to the price. I wonder if that includes the VAT that the tack on to hotels in London? After it was all said and done the room came out to $128/night. Still not bad.

Who Dat!

You've done really well there, Kensington is pretty much the nicest area in London. Chelsea FC play there and on the weekend the Saints are playing they are home to Liverpool(which is one of the biggest football games in Europe) so oyu might want to try and get a ticket for that?

Anyone flying to Gatwick has done well, you can get a direct train to Kings Cross(main tube station in London) from the airport and you won't have to endure the nightmare of Heathrow(England's answer to JFK).

Chelsea vs Liverpool? Really?

Is the soccer schedule already out for October? Chelsea vs Liverpool? Really?

I have season tickets to the Dallas Stars hockey here in Texas. Their owner, Tom Hicks, owns half of the Liverpool soccer club. I will have to see if I can get a ticket to that game through my season ticket contact.

Thanks for the heads up! I will DEFINITELY look into this.

Ah. that's who he owns. Hicks is never out of the news over here(and its not normally good news), Liverpool fans want him out of the club and have spent the last 6 months demonstrating at games against him.

I think London is the biggest football(soccer) city in the world(or maybe Buenos Aires) so there's plenty of matches to be played over the weekend with all the stadiums close to the tube getting to and from will be easy should you fancy a change of sport.

I know when i went to my first NFL games last year i loved the cultural differences of the US suporters. Tailgating in freezing snow, CRAZY.

Hey - never been to London and I'm down to only needing a hotel. I usually stay Hiltons but dam they look expensive.

Any suggestions about areas to stay? I just want to be near the action leading up to the game and such, but not necessarily near Wembley.
Also, should I stick with name brand hotels only? I don't want something weird... just something I'm used to. Gotta concentrate on turning brits into Who Dats.

Any help would be much appreciated!

If you go to priceline and offer $107 for a 4* hotel in the Kennsington area, you should be able to get the Hilton London Olympia to accept the offer. A couple of us have been able to get that deal and I don't think you'll find a better one.
