Lord of the Rings Series -- Amazon (1 Viewer)

Unless someone at Amazon Studios who is making these decisions gets axed. This series is not getting rebooted. WoT also had the major plot point character mystery boxed at the expense of major themes, and worldbuilding. WoT also had a relative inexperienced showrunner.

It's obvious there is an executive that thinks this the only way you make a series at Amazon, and wants to control the production.
The whole of the industry are the people making these decisions. So it's your fault their product is bombing, not theirs.

Well, yeah. That's kind of the point, though. Amazon did a great job of salting the earth RE: legit criticism.

I don't give a flying fart if there's a black actor playing an elf. What I would like to know, however, is if he's playing a white elf or if he looks to the other characters the same way he looks to the audience.

Like, in the olden days all the actors were men, so female parts were played by a guy. The other characters, however, saw a woman. They played their parts as if the dude playing Lady MacBeth or Juliette was a female. The audience sees a man while the characters see a woman.

Fast forward to RoP and Arondir. Does Galadriel see just another elven warrior or does she see the only black elf in Middle Earth? (If he's not the only one, I didn't see the 'blink-and-you'll-miss-it' appearance of another) If the character of Arondir looks to the other characters like any other elf, fine...whatever. Cordova's doing a fine job with the material he's given. It does kind of spike the "black elf" narrative, though. If the character isn't black, then we don't really have a black elf, we have a black guy playing a white elf.

If, however, he looks to the other characters like he appears to the audience then why hasn't anyone remarked on it? Even some little interaction like "Hey, Arondir, we don't see many elves from the lands beyond the Haradrim. What brought you so far north?"

It's just a thing that appears to be purposely injected by the writers to serve as a distraction and a buffer against criticism.

I agree that the damage isn't as bad as say, Star Wars. Someone else can always buy the rights to the whole Tolkien library and do a good job with it. Whereas we'll never again have the chance for the Big Three (Luke, Leia and Han) to appear together.

wait...your argument's getting worse - you're accusing them of stunt casting? (bc they knew the plot wasn't working and needed a 'woke' distraction?)
please tell me that's not your argument

I enjoyed season 1 of the ROP, but it didn’t wow me. I’m pretty simple to please, and while I don’t voice the complaints that many of you have, I completely understand them and agree with some as well.

With that said, I still contend that Peter Jackson’s trilogy is the best thing to ever hit a screen, period and I reject any arguments to the contrary. I watched it this past weekend, and 18-20 years later, it hasn’t lost a bit of luster. I’ve watched these movies too many times to name and they’re still amazing.

I just read that it's being discussed to reboot the series. I doubt it will happen. It appears that LOTR and hobbit fans are excited this might occur.

i will reiterate that i don't think RoP was uber amazing (the Numenor plot was junk - but beginning and end episodes were mostly good to great)
but i think you highlight a struggle - people love HotD:
a) bc great writing and acting, but
b) bc it was MUCH better than the last few seasons of GoT
Andor is a huge critical success bc great writing and acting but also bc it's scrating an itch (adult stories) than many SW fans have been clamoring for

LotR films are universally loved - the books are fetishized - remaking The Hobbit would have been the only thing someone could have done without huge blowback
