Marquez Callaway (1 Viewer)

I still want CGM in a Saints uniform...but I could envision Callaway as a #1. And if he is...do you really need to pay CGM at his current price? That's really the question. But of course you want both if you can have both.

Now that you brought up. I think it's a valid point.

Has Callaway ascended to the better playmaker at X? Could MT move to the Y and play out of the slot with Baker/Winston/Harris (mixed in) at the Z in the Devery role?

I don't think people remember that Colston played a lot of the slot, it's where he started. Sometimes it was Moore at X, Colston at Y and Devery at Z.

With Brees at QB the last few seasons, MT at X made the most sense due to his skillset. However, with Winston having the bigger arm, Callaway at X and MT manning the slot might be a better option for Winston. MT will still get his targets/catches, but it would give Winston the option to go big with Callaway or if that's not there to go to Mr. Reliable with MT. That still leaves Winston, Baker and Harris to blow the top off when needed.

Callaway has a lot to prove to take CGM's throne. He has made progression, but we have to be real.

Completely agree. CGM is still the most impressive WR I've ever seen in a Saints uniform. I've seen Eric Martin and Marques Colston...loved both of them, but what CGM did to open his career is HOF worthy. It's unfair to expect Callaway to be as good as CGM. However...I still think that Callaway very well could be a #1 WR in the NFL, and if that is the case, do you really need CGM at his current price tag, especially if there is some level of personality concerns moving forward? I love CGM the player...so I say yes...but I also loved Brandin Cooks and the Saints dropped him like a hot plate when the right time presented. Wouldn't shock me in the least if CGM is gone next year and Callaway is the #1.

Some of y'all need to chill out, it was one qtr of a preseason game.
I don’t think that anyone is saying he’s as good as Hopkins, but it is a very good comp when it comes to traits and skillset. Both have meh size and average speed but unbelievable hands, concentration, and body control to take football away from defenders. Time will tell if he comes remotely close regarding success but his play style is comparable.

Sure they are both big strong receivers, so are a bunch of WRs in the NFL. Hopkins is significantly more than that. It's silly to compare Calloway to a top 5 WR in the NFL.
