Marquez Callaway (2 Viewers)

He reminds me of Cordell Patterson as a return man. Nothing to do with the fact they both from Tennessee. Just size and return ability. Just hope he develops better than Patterson at WR. Great find as I was pulling for Butler I see why he made the team over Butler. He seems to be plug and play in a lot of different roles.

This is actually a very good comparison. Their running styles are essentially identical. Patterson is a little faster, but if you put them both in the same jersey I'm not sure you could tell them apart. I'm pretty confident that Callaway will turn out to be a better WR. He just has much more natural receiving abilities (route running, hands, and ball skills).

I thought he looked realy good yesterday. A small bright spot from yesterday. Still early in his career, but hopefully he continues to grow and develop as a player.

While he doesn’t have elite top end speed he has the incredible ability to see the field. He was finding holes in kick coverage and exploiting them for big returns. He was continually giving the Saints O short fields (which they did mostly nothing with). He also has terrific hands - not one bobbled kick or struggling to field the ball. I was actually looking forward to every punt and kickoff to see what he was going to do. He is going to become a weapon for this team.

Yeah, I just mentioned that he looked kinda a slow. Kind of like Colston. Much faster runner than he looks, and seems very fluid on his returns!

The vision and lack of flashiness while picking up significant yardage was reminding me of Pierre Thomas a bit.

We are used to Harris, the human lightning bolt. Thought Callaway looked okay, but not extremely fast, no. Did seem to have great vision and some shiftiness to him, and he got pretty good yardage on returns. I like the fact the he is now a solid option to fill in for Harris whenever needed, and we can use Harris on offense more now without worrying quite so much.

You forget that outside and seal down blocking is a huge part of our offense.
And Tre’quan is one of the best in the league.

no denying that. Tre’quan is a great blocker. Too bad the pitches to AK to the outside have been sniffed out by a stacked box lately.

I just wish TQS would live up to his potential and be consistent.

Callaway has clear talent. If he can move the chains, that is sorely needed at the moment. Perhaps more so than great outside blocking.

In the fourth quarter with about 12:55 left to play, Marquez ran a great double move that would have been a touchdown. Brees was looking his way but Ramczyk gave up a quick sack to Bosa on this play. It would have capped off a great night.

I wasn't able to watch most of the game, so I was stuck listening to it on the radio. I was looking forward to seeing how Callaway did as a returner. I was pleasantly surprised to hear just about every punt return go for 10+ yards. It sounded like he was averaging like 15 yards a return, which is stupendous! It also sounded like he was taking them up the middle, which usually indicates fearless vision. It's a huge relief knowing that when Harris goes down, you've got someone like Callaway waiting in the wings. I wasn't super impressed with his college footage, aside from his 50/50 ball skills, but he's been really promising for the future. I remember in the Packers game I saw him on the field and just thought "Woah, he looks huge".

I thought he was pretty great. he does look slow returning kicks, but consistently got good return yardage, so no worries there.

the play that impressed me the most is when he got that pass on the sideline a couple yards short of the first down, and instead of going out of bounds he just lowered his head and took the defender past the sticks. great football play there.

I'll say he doesn't look explosive out of the gates but I don' tthink he's slow by any stretch. Because of Deonte's size and thus inevitable possibility he'll get injured again I wonder if the Saints will consider giving Callaway Kickoff return snaps here and there and letting Deonte be a factor on punt returns.

He's already getting snaps on offense and was the next man up behind Harris as a KR/PR which tells me the Saints have plans for him.

He'll probably get the snaps on offense that Harris' would normally get leaving just a few gimmick plays for Harris. Harris can remain at PR. I know it's exciting to see a little 5'6" 170 lb guy run around, but there's not a great track record of those guys having long successful careers and most are injury riddled.
