Maybe Jon Gruden ends up being Saints HC? (1 Viewer)

If you want a transition head coach go get Belichick or keep Rizzi. Gruden would destroy what little team unity we have left. He would deeply divide the team.

Yeah, I disagree... I wouldn't mind BB in that same capacity for the same reasons as JG... The team has brought him in as a consultant on several occasions... I don't buy that he would be some divider... although I see why some people might think he would be....

I don't see this FO being changed much... IMO... and based on what's happened in the past... JG is more likely than BB

I don't think Gruden is going to be a HC here or anywhere else. There is no way to guarantee that his prior reputation wouldn't hurt the team in terms of free agency and you can't have that. We already have enough tough sells and don't need another one.

I like the Belichick idea for a few years to help fix the team while mentoring someone on the staff to take the torch. Then move Belichick to front office if he wanted something like that for a couple years to watch.

It's gonna be Bobby Slowik.

He said they would bring in a quality control coach to help with special teams. I can't see that being Gruden.
Gruden has to restart somewhere. He has great ties to the team and he is a really good Rah, Rah type coach like Rizzi.
What could it hurt?

Oh, and just to qualify my position on this... If the current FO cleans house in the offseason - and I mean clean house (Like Carr and every bad contract and overpaid and often injured player not earning their paycheck).... Then forget about Gruden, BB, or any other old coach... and Bring in a young guy with offensive prowess to start from scratch....

I just don't see the FO doing all that in one offseason... and I don't want to hire (and ruin) a promising young HC. Not everyone is a CSP from jump.

Every time they brought him in it was an uncomfortable situation according to Underhill. The players were willing to let it happen only because it was what was best for the team and it was a limited role. They were willing to try anything to fix the offense. I doubt they feel the same if they tried to name him head coach.

It doesn't matter if the accusations of racism are true or not because many players believe they are true. The last thing this organization needs right now is more controversy and trouble in the locker room.

And that ignores the fact that he hasn't been a good coach in many years and failed with the Raiders the last time he was their head coach.

Maybe they do bring in JG. But if they do, they should all be fired.

It could cost us years of bad coaching and players and free agents not wanting to be here.

Great coaches make jobs great jobs. None of the jobs that will be open will be great situations for one reason or another. But much like a franchise QB, you have to keep rolling the dice until you find that guy. Gruden clearly is no longer that guy. I'd rather roll the dice on a young guy and see if he can make magic the way Payton did than go with an old retread that has shown he can't still win in the league.

I don't want BB either, but if you want a caretaker to fix the culture I'd rather a disciplinarian like BB to make them pay attention to details instead of rah rah Gruden yelling how wild that is.

Ben Johnson - head coach
Mike Vrabel - dc
Fire Loomis.

Commit to the rebuild. Trade anybody you can right now like Lattimore and Young for whatever you can get.

In the off-season cut ties with guys like Turner, Johnson, Miller., etc. Availability is the number one ability.

Stop kicking the can down the road. Stop trading up in the draft. Trade for more draft picks. Hire better talent evaluators.

Hire better training staff.

I read the transcripts... I didn't sense uncomfortable in the responses.... I remember Winston calling him a football genius, and being glad that he was there... I mean, I wasn't there, and could be wrong...

In any case, I know he wants another shot, and I know the Saints were in his ear...

I also think he's honestly remorseful... and deserves another chance just like anyone would who screws up, owns it, corrects the behavior, and asks for forgiveness.

But again, I could see why some wouldn't....

I can think of 100 reasons why he would make the perfect bridge HC in the short term... and only 1 reason why not.... for me it comes down to "how do the players feel about it".... If the answer to that ends up being your take... then he's obviously not an option no matter what I think.
