Maybe Jon Gruden ends up being Saints HC? (2 Viewers)

I can look at his play calling, including a 30 yard fade on 4th down at the end of the game. That route shouldn't have even been in the read progression. And frankly, his play calling with Rattler was pretty bad.

I think he's an okay OC, but he's not great and lacks any real originality beyond running the system that his dad and Mike Shanahan built. And this isn't his first shot at being a OC and those results were mediocre as well.
C'mon bud. it's been already said that the 1st read on the play was JJ on the option route. its was DC that panicked and threw that ball. All he ha to do was give JJ a millisecond to clear the LB and he was one. DC had the time
ios play calling for SR was because SR is a rookie in his 1st starts and SR got worse each game. It was not the plays it was the players

You don't have to be an in your face yelling kind of OC , in fact almost all of them are not

I get that but someone said things would change now with a coach that would get in Carr's face. My point is that if it's Carr then that should have been corrected by the OC long ago and the OC should not have called a play that included a 30 yard fade on 4th and 3 or 4.

That 30 yard fade should not have even been in the read progression on 4th and short at the end of the game.

And if these excuses apply to Kubiak, wouldn't they equally apply to DA?

Teams run clear out routes all the time, and yes teams call shot plays on 3rd and even 4th and short because there's a chance the guy gets open because the defense is more worried about giving up a first. If that's Olave or Shaheed he's throwing too no one is particularly worried about it (although from what I remember live the throw itself wasn't great either). For whatever reason Carr never really seemed to look at Juwan Johnson, either he decided pre-snap he didn't think it was getting open or for some reason really liked the idea of throwing that fade. Maybe it was completely intentional, maybe it was horrible decision making, but either way if Carr does look at Johnson he's got a higher percentage throw available and the time to deliver it. I just don't think it's Kubiak's fault for our QB deciding to lock in on the low percentage ball and throw it to the guy who in the best case scenario would be our 4th option at receiver. Personally I could take or leave Kubiak as an OC, the first two weeks were fun, it's been average at the best of times and horrible at the worst since then. I don't personally think the scheme itself is a problem so on one hand, IF the new HC wants to keep him around then I'm fine with that. Likely though whoever comes in will want to bring in their own staff and have their own overarching philosophy as to what kind of offense/defense best compliments the side of the ball they favor unless they're one of those HCs that are fine with not calling plays on either side of the ball.

As far as Allen goes, he largely lost the fan base last season, the players seem to rally late on and looked dangerous albeit against a fairly easy schedule on paper. This year, it became pretty clear that he lost his defensive guys (though the injuries haven't helped on D either) and when the defensive Head Coach has lost the confidence on the side of the ball he prioritizes and calls the plays for well it was either go through the motions for the rest of the year or fire him now. Gayle Benson, with or without Loomis backing, decided for the latter option. We'll see if the players rally under Rizzi and at the very least give a full effort throughout the whole game. I think we're probably too banged up to completely turn things around but again I just want to see HOW the players respond to this.

I think we will end up with Gruden. This team seems to be lacking a coach that is a stickler for attention to detail and we had that with Coach Payton. Someone that’s truly a x and o’s coach. Hell payton was a qb coach under him in Philly. We need a person who isn’t soft and knows how to light a fire also and DA just doesn’t do that. I think that tenacity is what Dan Campbell has in Detroit and it has helped the lions. Missing tackles and all of these penalties and other nonsense would be called out in practice by a Sean Payton and Gruden. I just think that’s the direction they may go.

It's just not the 2000's anymore. Grudens style of game planning doesn't seem to work in the NFL well anymore. We saw him struggling with the Raiders. They really limped along, and he finally got that organization to be around a .500 team. As soon as he was let go by the Raiders, the interim head coach led the Raiders to the playoffs.

The interim head coach did a better job game planning. But its worth noting that Gruden really did nail the draft down and assemble a really good roster for them.

I would rather us hire a hungry, talented, successful, yet still young coordinator who commands his players’ respect than another retread. Either side of the ball is fine with me as long as it’s someone who has a complete vision for a team, including the type of players to acquire. Gruden had his day in the sun, but that’s long over.

I personally think that the Saints are at least 3 years away. In order words…I think that our next coach will very likely also be a lame duck. Loomis has dug such an enormous hole

I like Gruden, but I really hope not. His only real coaching claim to fame is the Tampa Bay SB, in his first year there, then proceeded to run that team into the ground, going 45 and 51 after the SB season.
