Maybe Jon Gruden ends up being Saints HC? (2 Viewers)

He's a .500 coach!

He coached for 15 years and have 6 winning seasons vs 6 losing seasons with three evens. His Super Bowl team was pre-made by another coach that went on to win a SB himself. TB followed their SB win with back 2 back losing seasons under Gruden. His last winning season as a coach was a 9-7 season back in 2008.

PASS!

I don’t necessarily dislike Gruden but ultimately for me it’d be an uninspired hire. I think he’s best off right where he is analyzing tape and interviewing players.

I’ve never been a huge fan of the way his teams played football and in my opinion his last really good teams were of course the Bucs SB year and the Raiders team that lost to Brady’s pats (I think that was him). He’s also had two significant lay offs from being on the sideline at this point.

Gruden's living off his name and a Super Bowl from 20 years ago. He's barely over .500 for his career, I really don't get the obsession with this guy
Really!! he's been to a SB AND won one. What his overall record is means NOTHING. I'll take 1-1 SB record over a coach that has a .733 winning % and never been to the ship

Would make a ton of sense.

Old- Check
Hasn't had a winning season in 16 years - Check
Hated by league office - Check
Considered racist by much of the league - Check
Will continue the trend of the league screwing us any chance it can - Check

What could go wrong?
I think that’s what some here want a good ole fashioned coach

What has the offensive staff showed, other than the inability to make in-game adjustments?

It was all glorious when they played the hapless Panthers and Cowboys (who just took a 47-9 beatdown from the Lions in Dallas). But lose 2 players and crumble like that? And that freaking Kamara run through the middle for no yards...
SMH Players were dropping like flies, and we far from crumbled in the Philly and ATL game. You so have a distorted view of history

I read the transcripts... I didn't sense uncomfortable in the responses.... I remember Winston calling him a football genius, and being glad that he was there... I mean, I wasn't there, and could be wrong...

In any case, I know he wants another shot, and I know the Saints were in his ear...

I also think he's honestly remorseful... and deserves another chance just like anyone would who screws up, owns it, corrects the behavior, and asks for forgiveness.

But again, I could see why some wouldn't....

I can think of 100 reasons why he would make the perfect bridge HC in the short term... and only 1 reason why not.... for me it comes down to "how do the players feel about it".... If the answer to that ends up being your take... then he's obviously not an option no matter what I think.
What does Winston know , we all know how most feel about him here

The thing is that I think Kubiak is a solid OC but not someone who is irreplaceable. I think he's still very much so the same guy he was when he was the Vikings OC. He just seemed better than he is because we are comparing him to Pete who was not running a modern offense.

Of course I also don't want Gruden.

I think if you want to develop Rattler you go with a young offensive head coach who has developed young QBs in the past and runs a similar system. i.e. Ben Johnson or Slowik. And I'm sure there are other young guys in the McVay/Shanahan/Kubiak tree that would either work as HCs or OCs under a defensive head coach.

The truth is that we don't really know if Kubiak can develop a young QB. But we do know that Johnson did a good job rebuilding Goff and Slowik did a good job with Stroud.
You can't make any kind of assessment of KK after we got decimated by injuries. The only thing you can go on is what we did when we were mostly healthy. Heck even in the 1st 2 games we really only had 1 good RB.
I would bet $$$ that the results we saw in the 1st 2 games are closer to what you'd see in a KK offense. I mean he did that with an avg to below avg OL, and without a true # 1 WR a below avg TE

You can do worst for a head coach than JG. Considering he’s still young enough. He is inheriting mess of an organization but he knows what winning looks like.

Gruden was 22-31 in his last 4 years with the Raiders. That's not what winning looks like. We should aim much higher than Gruden even if he didn't have all the off the field issues.

I can look at his play calling, including a 30 yard fade on 4th down at the end of the game. That route shouldn't have even been in the read progression. And frankly, his play calling with Rattler was pretty bad.

I think he's an okay OC, but he's not great and lacks any real originality beyond running the system that his dad and Mike Shanahan built. And this isn't his first shot at being a OC and those results were mediocre as well.

I'll save judgement until I see what happens with more disciplined group of players where a coach is in Carrs face to a point where he ain't making that kind of throw.
