[Merged] N/S- Henry Ruggs car accident in Vegas (update from old thread) (2 Viewers)

I do get it, but there is a difference in having a couple beers and driving and drinking a six pack or more then jumping behind the wheel.

I disagree.

I mean, i get that there’s a difference in the intoxication level of those two things.. but one thing I KNOW is that no one is a good judge of how “okay” they are to drive after a couple of beers.. i have long thought it should be illegal to even have a sip of alcohol and then get behind the wheel of a half ton weapon.. ESPECIALLY now with the widespread availability of ride sharing services.. just zero excuse… if you think that YOU are the exception, you are somehow the outlier and ‘know your limits’- then i would say you are misguided at best. (Not directed at you specifically , but *you* in general)

I know some who will make comments like, I'm a big drinker, so i can drink 6 or 8 beers and not even be buzzed so its not like i'm really drunk.

Those people are just beyond stupid and deserve whatever’s coming to them.. Sorry not sorry about being so harsh in my judgement, ive simply seen too much pain, anguish and death amongst my own family as a DIRECT result of drinking or buzzed driving, to give two ****s about anyone who thinks theyre somehow a great driver after a drink or six.

I work at a plant and i see this all the time.
All the convience stores around here, they have the litttle brown paper bags already out and open on the counter because so many guys when they get off stop and get a beer for the ride home. I couldn't imagine being one who can't wait 20 minutes to get home to drink a beer.

Just an fyi, personally, The times where i have drank a couple beers then drove home, its been over a couple hour period., My wife and our friends may go put, and i am usually the DD. But i may drink a couple beers thoughout the night, over a 2,3 or 4 hour period. I wouldn't drink 2 or 3 beers in a matter of a few minutes then drive off. no..

I Heard the Raiders released him. Trying to find a link. My brother said it's on Twitter but I don't twit or tweet or whatever it's called.

Wow. Reading the updates that is terrible. Prayers to the victim’s family. RIP to the victim.

Reminds me of Stallworth back in the day, IIRC he killed someone while driving too. A pedestrian I think.
Yeah...but he was barely over the limit, not speeding or driving recklessly, and witnesses testified the pedestrian literally stepped out into traffic and courts ruled this played a significantly larger role...meaning even if Stallworth had nothing to drink, he still would have plowed into him.

Just so tragic. Life is a series of decisions. I'm no moralists so if you want to make bad decisions then it's your life. We only get the one chance so live it the way you want to. But when your decisions put other people at risk, you just can't do it. A total stranger's life was ended because he decided to buy a fast car and drive it drunk.

With drunk driving I don't know what the answer is. What is the solution? Impaired people don't make rational decisions. Would a drunk person rethink getting behind the wheel if much, much harsher penalties were in place? Maybe some. If even a few people decide not to drive drunk because they could face serious consequences then lives could be saved. What if breathalyzers came standard on cars? I'd gladly be forced to blow into a tube if it meant saving a life.

I don't know the answer but I do know that there is absolutely no excuse for some of these people walking around free after getting 4 or 5 DWIs. How do people get away with so many of them? I'm sure we all know someone who has several.
