I want to love the pick, but we’ve been so snake bit with injuries it’s hard to not focus on the injury history. I really just wanted to draft a guy with a clean bill of health lol

2021 - ACL tear
2022 - Kidney infection
2022 - Shoulder surgery

That’s a not the injury history you want to see in a R-Sophmore first round pick

Is a kidney infection an injury?

See post #81 for more deets on the shoulder cleanup for which he missed zero games. Not serious surgery, but timing to do simple cleanup during his ACL recovery.
I get it and I appreciate the optimism. It’s still a lot for a college athlete taken in the first. We all want him to succeed but Nola is already injury cursed and it doesn’t discriminate between Saints or Pelicans lol

The. Kid had an ACL tear, that was a the only injury he had in college. How is that injury prone?
Freakishly talented kid who had bad luck last year (Kidney infection and the very unfortunate death of his sister). This is a fantastic pick at a position of need.
Feel bad for the family and him about his sister. He had a shoulder surgery in addition to the ACL. That is 2 connective tissue injuries. Because of the injury issues the last 2 year for the Saints, I did not expect them to pick a guy who had multiple surgeries. The other issue is in his final year he played in 10 games. He only had 15 total tackles. And yes his sister's death really impacted him like it would me. We are human. His freshman year he was phenomenal. He is a beast. But we have dealt with injury after injury the last 2 years+, o thought they

So is that why he had 15 total tackles in 10 games his final year?

It’s still an injury lol. Seriously!!?!
Yes, seriously.

Every player gets “injured.” The question is whether the injuries are major or minor, are they likely to reoccur and whether they could lead to an immediate or long-term deterioration.

A shoulder clean up after the season doesn’t set off any alarms.

Let’s look at the carfax report. He didn’t miss games because he was playing injured
So? That's what our pros do all the time. They play with minor stuff that they cleanup during the off-season. Very, very common in the NFL. That's just business. We don't call pros who do that injury prone. We mostly ignore it.

How many players have surgeries after the season? If they can play through it they more than likely do. That’s why,,”if you’re not playing hurt you’re not really playing” is an expression.

Ok he tore his ACL in 2020 and had a kidney infection and dealt with the loss of his little sister in 2022. Not exactly a laundry list of injuries.

Anyway how many really healthy college players get drafted and then suffer the injury bug? You can’t always tell and sometimes it’s just flukes.

But no scout or professional evaluator denies Breese’s talent. We still needed to shore up the defensive line and he seems like an excellent addition that not only fills a big need but was one of the best players on the board.
