My guess: Caitlin & Angel will garner co-Rookie of the Year honors (8 Viewers)

So, it's not a team game?

Like, when WRs would drop Brees passes. His problem right?
sure it is. but if Drew Brees had 10 turnovers, but 2 of them were from tipped passes, who are you blaming the loss on?

I didn't say mostly her team's fault, i said probably half of her trunovers are from passes to her teammates, and a lot of that were from her teammates not being ready to catch the pass. Some of that is her, and some is her teammates. If they're not on the same page, you'll see a lot of turnovers. Thats just basketball.

Certainly, both need to happen if they're going to have success. Time will tell.

Where did anyone here say she's perfect or that it's all her teammates' fault? No one is saying that.

Dave, one of a PG's main responsibilities is to know/feel when and how to get the ball to teammates.....if you have ever heard Larry Bird talk about Dennis Johnson, he says one of the things that made him so great was his ability to get the ball in the exact place a teammate wanted it, he rarely turned it over.....it comes with time and I have no doubt CC will get there but she's not there yet...... I feel like you were trying to excuse away her main weakness, if not then I misunderstood I guess?

I haven’t seen every Fever game but my sense is her high turnovers come from a combination of 1) overaggressiveness - trying to do too much, low percentage down court football throws, etc, 2) she is on a crap team, 3) she’s on the court the entire game and probably makes more passes than any player in the league, which leads to a higher volume of both assists and turnovers and, relatedly, 4) fatigue. She’s 3rd in minutes in the league as a rookie PG with a 3 week offseason.

Anyway, if you put up 24 pts 6 rebounds 19 assists (wnba record) and score or assist on 66 points (wnba record ) as a rookie most teams will live with the 6 turnovers

Just imagine when she has a few years experience/conditioning.

What i don't understand is why the hate for either Clark or Reese (not from here).
If you go find any post on Facebook about Reese, half of the comments are bashing her while taling up Clark. I just don't get it.. I mean, i know where some of it comes from when the word Thug and stuff like that comes out, but thats a converstion for another thread, then it turns into a Reese vs Clark converstion.
If you find a post about Clark, for some reason, so many of the comments talk anbout how she was snubbed from the Olympics.
Clark is a great player and will be great for a long time, i guess i jjust can't understand why people feel slighted for her if you talk about Reese.

As a rookie, Magic Johnson was 4th in the NBA in turnovers per game. As a 2nd year pro, Larry Bird was 5th in turnovers per game.

The 4 players who had the most turnovers per game in the nba this year were Luka, Wembanyama (rookie of the year), Lebron, and Giannis. Those are 4 of the best players in the league.

When you are the offensive hub of your team and are tasked with handling the ball so much and making so many decisions per game, turnovers are going to happen. There is no avoiding it, no matter how good the player is. It is a matter of if the positives are outweighing the negatives and how effective are you making the offense, even with the turnovers.

No to speak for him, but I don’t think the issue is that Dave doesn’t understand what it means to be a point guard. He was just providing a bit of context for a statistic.

I don’t think anyone is saying that Clark doesn’t need to reduce her turnovers. It is an issue. However, I don’t think her problem is not being able to get the ball to her teammates where they want it.

She leads the league in assists as a rookie, has accounted for the most offense in the league (her points + points as a result of her assists), and is really developing an awesome tandem with Aliyah Boston.

Good points and I understand the offensive hub point.....but, Magic never, ever had less than a 2-1 Assist - T/O ratio and most often it was 3-1, same with Bird, his worst T/O year was 3.5.....

I mentioned early in this argument the 1-1 Assist - T/O ratio that folks tend to not pay attention to, I stand by that being a major negative currently in CC's game.....

But, I also think she is already starting to improve and last night she broke the single game assist record.....and if she stays on this trajectory she will likely deserve and will be rookie of the year, unless Reese has a monster finish.....

Clark is definitely turning the ball over too much. You won’t get any arguments from me (or really anyone) about that.

I was more responding to the points about such & such player “rarely turning the ball over” and the importance of getting the ball to people where they want it.

We definitely agree that Clark needs to keep improving on the turnovers.

In the end both CC and Reese are going to be great for the WNBA, different players and positions but huge impact from both.....

And I totally agree that the sports media (which I detest) constantly tries to spin how CC and Reese are supposed "enemies" when all I've heard from each of them are that they are friendly off the court and respect each other.....

Clark's last 5 games, only 1 where did she not have a 2:1 Assist to TO ratio. In one of these games she hit 3:1.

Also fun fact she has 1 more block than Angel Reese has during their last 5 games.

I mean, she's a rookie. I wouldn't expect her to be close to there yet. I wasn't trying to excuse it away, but there's often context to consider as to why things happen.

Yeah, the pitting of one vs the other bugs me. I like them both and they each bring a lot to the table and suspect they'll be All-Stars in the next season or 2. Supporting one doesn't mean we gotta tear down the other.

There are a lot of people online who claim to be all about the WNBA and the growth of the league, but all of their content boils down to really ugly Caitlyn Clark vs Angel Reese stuff, with both players getting a lot of unnecessary flack.

It’s really unfortunate and I don’t think it helps the WNBA at all. It isn’t a wonderful Magic vs Bird rivalry right now; it is just fans being really mean and ugly, who are getting in the way of such a potential professional rivalry.
