I certainly remember a lot of complaints on this forum that we didn't hire him, and he's already out the door.

This forum was pretty much split between Allen, Pederson, McDaniel, Flores, and Bienemy. Kevin O’Connell turned out to be the best from that cycle so it just goes to show you never know who the best is going to be. Odds are a retread isn’t the right hire.

Joe Schoen, is an interesting story. He definitely screwed the pooch on the QB position, but in this past draft he did get Nabers who had a great season despite the QB play, and Schoen did find Tyrone Tracey in the draft, who also had a great season, fighting his way to starting RB. They better find a QB quick.

And if you watched Hard Knocks you know Nabors was their guy from the start, but they were looking to trade up for Daniels. Washington wasn’t willing to move. Their scouting was pretty good in the last draft.

He didn't come up through the ranks. He was never a coordinator. He had a few seasons as an inside linebacker coach and then Kraft decided he was the guy.

He was clearly out of his depth even with basic game management stuff. He didn't handle the press well. He threw his own players under the bus.

He was a bad coach. How much he knows about the game is irrelevant. Plenty of former players have busted as coaches.
Mayo was never a coordinator. It's almost always a bad move to promote a guy with no OC or DC experience to HC. And especially a guy with so little coaching experience .
I mean we are saying this but at the same time, Vrabel was a DC for a single season and the Texans had the worst defense in the NFL that season before he got a head coaching job taking over a 9-7 team. I'm not saying that Mayo was some great coach but some of these takes...lol

Lou Anarumo out as CIN D coordinator. I don't think that mess was his fault and he should land on his feet somewhere. But he goes from a fringe HC candidate past few cycles to canned...

Only a few years ago, Anarumo was considered a possible head coach. He is something of a scapegoat for the failures of the front office on retaining and acquiring defensive talent. The Bengals have to pay Chase--and it will be more than the number was before this season. It is hard to see them signing both Chase and Higgins. They need to get a young receiver and badly bolster their defense and offensive line.

Yeah he got benched in Cleveland too. Love him as a person, seems to be a great teammate, he isn’t a good QB.
To be fair, there is a nonzero chance he was benched for tanking reasons

Not saying Winston is anyone’s franchise or anything like that though

Factoid: Jerod Mayo was selected by the Patriots after they and the Saints swapped Number 1 picks:

Apr 26, 2008: Patriots traded 2008 1st round pick (7th overall, Sedrick Ellis) and 2008 5th round pick (164th overall, Carl Nicks) to Saints for 2008 1st round pick (10th overall, Jerod Mayo) and 2008 3rd round pick (78th overall, Shawn Crable)
