NFL/NBA now have a Donald Sterling problem with Gayle Benson (3 Viewers)

Rodney is a good man and also my neighbor. He had worked for Benson since he was a teenager. After Katina, he quit since Benson was going to move the team to San Antonio. Benson personally hired him back after the Super Bowl. Go back and look at pictures of Benson and Rodney is always with him. He took of Benson long before Gayle showed up.

Did Rodney ever tell you how much of a racist Gayle Benson was before this lawsuit?

Tom benson wants his wife to take over ownership after he dies. Everyone knows this. If he were to go today, she is in contention to be the owner. The league might actually step in to make some political hay out of this and throw the whole thing into question. Rita will pounce on it for certain.

It's not good

Rita can't "pounce on it" anymore then you can go pounce on it. She has no legal right to the team. She does not hold any voting shares.

If the league rejects Gayle, that has nothing to do with Rita getting the team. They can not force the sale to a specific person and Rita would not have the money to buy it anyway.

I know this should probably be a side-bar discussion, but I've heard this suggested before that if Gayle is not allowed to take over the team it doesn't mean that Rita will inherit it.

If that is the case then what happens to the team? Does the NFL essentially put it on the open market?

If someone is the rightful financial owner yet the NFL rejects them, they can force the sale of the team I think. But they can't take the financial rights away from Gayle and they can't force her to sell under market to a specific person.

There may be an explanation for the delay in the filing of the discrimination claims as opposed to the overtime claim. Prior to filing a discrimination lawsuit, you MUST file a claim with the EEOC first. They have time to investigate (although you can request that they release it and let you file a lawsuit). Once the EEOC is done, they will give you a "Right to Sue" letter. It tells the court that you have gone through the EEOC first.

You do not need to file with the EEOC on an overtime claim. Therefore, he could have filed the OT lawsuit, and only just recently received the "Right to Sue" letter from the EEOC.

I don't know if that is what happened or not. Just a possible explanation for the delay in the filing of the discrimination lawsuit.

Based on the facts as I know them, I would not have taken this case on as a Plaintiff's attorney. I would want a recording if possible or some e-mails or text messages. I wouldn't take a he said/she said case on just based on his claims of what she said. These cases can get expensive and that is a big chance you are taking that they will believe him over her.

When i first heard it, I felt like someone is playing this card in order to get Benson out. No one takes this on unless there is a big payoff at the end. I would say, wait to judge, either side. Anyone can say anything ... let's see the facts.

I think it would be a pretty cool gig driving around an owner in a Benz, flying in a private jet, going to road games, owners meetings etc. for $50,000 plus tips. Standing outside for some king cakes sure would not bother me.

who cares , as long as they stay in NOLA

Rita might not be able to get the team but she'll do all she can to make sure gayle doesn't get it....

St. Louis Rams won a Super Bowl their and look at what happened to them. Its a lot of speculation right now, but I could definetly see them moving. I mean the Superdome isn't getting any younger. To be honest it's a great stadium but compared to these newer ones it's a dump. I think if the city and state don't play ball next time I could see them moving on.

But they were only in SL for 20 years.
