NFL Scouting Combine: Feb 27–Mar 2 (92 Viewers)

Jeanty is undoubtedly more explosive than Ingram ever was. Nothing against Ingram, but Jeanty has shown he can pull away from DB’s Ingram never really did so. Loves Ingram bit in college and for the Saints, but Jeanty is different.

Jeanty was pulling away from DBs in the Mountain West. Ingram was playing against SEC DBs. I don't think that's a fair measure of relative speed.

Omarion Hampton stuck out like a sore thumb in these RB drills so far. Looks almost clumsy.

Mark Ingram absolutely had moments of running away from college DBs. He also had moments of getting caught from behind same as Jeanty.

There's absolutely a reason he's not running the 40. He's probably a 4.6 guy (Mark Ingram speed). Which IMO does not matter and RB speed is pretty overrated but he's definitely not what I would consider "fast" for a RB.

The list of pro bowl level RBs under 5'9 with a 4.55-4.6 40 is not that long. I'd imagine it's maybe a few. Which again is fine because he's such an anomaly.

Do you really think Jeanty is a 4.6 guy?

I mean he's definitely a 4.55-4.6 guy yes.

His speed is not his strength so it's pretty irrelevant for me. His contact balance, agility, and vision is what makes him a top 10 pick not his speed.

There's 100% a reason he's not participating at the combine. If he could run a 4.4 he would immediately solidify himself as a top 5 lock.

That’s the beauty of advanced analytics. 21.7 mph is the same whether it’s against SEC or Mountain West, or literally any other opponent.

But also he sure looked perfectly fast pulling away from Oregon defenders

I’d love to see any example of Mark Ingram hitting 21.7 mph in a game.

The fastest Ingram has ever been clocked in a game is 21.3 mph.

The run against Oregon blows the "He's running away from Mountain West guys" argument out of the water.

lol no.

It absolutely is one of his biggest strengths along with contact balance, agility, vision, and versatility as a pass catcher.

Not even remotely accurate. Plenty of top prospects don’t run at the combine anymore. Has nothing to do with “having something to hide”. How fast did Malik Nabers, Marvin Harrison, or Brock Bowers run last year at the combine? Nabers ran at his pro day and Harrison/Bowers were locked in top picks and didn’t even run at all at the combine or pro day. There are a ton of other recent examples of this, but this is literally the top offensive prospects last year.

Is Hunter going to run today? Is Tetairoa going to run today? Did Tyler Warren run yesterday? etc. Singling out Jeanty that he is “hiding something” because he’s not running is an absurd take. Especially when the film so clearly shows his top tier explosiveness.

That's not a huge difference and you are comparing Jeanty to a RB that ran a 4.66 forty at the Combine and was not known for his speed. Jeanty is a great back, but he's not likely to be a home run hitter in the NFL. Which is fine since RBs seldom get to use that speed or hit those home runs no matter how good they are. The exceptions are guys like Saquon and it's why although I think Jeanty is very good, I don't think he's in the class of Saquon.

So, sure, he's likely in the range of a Mark Ingram type. Probably better than Ingram but he's not Saquon or Barry Sanders. And the fact that he's only 5'8" and 211 Lbs. does mean that for him to be successful as the type of runner Ingram was, he is going to have to be an outlier. It think he is that outlier, but it is an issue.

He outran one Oregon defender that took a bad angle and the rest were behind him with bad angles when he broke through the line. Anyway, you know that one play is not enough to make any valid conclusion about any player.

We can agree to disagree. When he runs a 4.5 at his pro day @me. Pro days are hand timed and are significantly more inaccurate vs laser timed combine.

It's the same reason Will Johnson and Tet won't run. They have questions on their speed and will run at their pro day where it'll be faster.

I don't think his speed is anywhere near the level of strength everything else is. He has some of the best contact balance we have ever seen. His speed is nowhere near that level. (Which again is fine)

Hunter doesn't have any speed questions.
Is Tetairoa going to run today?
Like I said above he will run at his pro day so it'll look better. Same with Will Johnson. If they had nothing to hide they would run.
Did Tyler Warren run yesterday?
Another guy with questionable speed. He could easily run a 4.7-4.8 which would only hurt his stock so he will run at his pro day where it's hand timed.

Yes, he's explosive but he also gets caught from behind. Which again points to not having elite speed. He's a 4.5-4.6 guy. Which is fine.

I would say one of the main strengths of Jeanty is his ability to turn on the jets when he gets free. Jeanty's gonna hit a lot of homers in the NFL. I think he puts up a sub 4.4 40 at the pro day if he runs it. I know it's a pro day and not combine confirmed but I think he gets it.
