Nick Underhill: Players organizing a Players-Only Meeting (4 Viewers)

This has always been an issue for me with DA. From Day 1 he has treated the offense, at least when speaking publicly and from what we can tell on game days, like it isn’t his problem. It’s an odd separation of responsibility dynamic that he carried over from his previous DC role.

Even SP, when he was the offensive play caller, would still be visibly getting in defensive players’ faces and sometimes even the DC would catch heat.

I really don’t like the defensive play caller HC coaching model in general. I think this is an offensive game overall, and the main decision maker should be someone that has the offense at the forefront of each choice he makes, if you’re indeed going with the play caller HC model.

I do like the “Leader of Men,” “I am in charge of the game management and management of the people only” model too though, like Tomlin.
Good post. You can still be a “leader of men” and hold players accountable without being emotional.

It’s about the HC paying attention to the details and building a culture of accountability. Sean was great at both even as a play caller HC.

DA is not good at either and plays favorites, which undercuts things even further.

Some players are more important than others, and center is near the top of the list, especially when you’re lacking depth there.

And of course, it’s a whole lot more than 1 player who have been injured. It’s a valid explanation.

Erik McCoy is responsible for calling all of the protections and blocking schemes for every play.

He's honestly more important than the Quarterback.

This is crazy and last year AK 41 had to call one but here is my piece of mind. I think this should have been done by the head coach , it doesn’t look good and shows a lack of leadership by the coaching staff when and if the players have to call a players only meeting to get everyone on board and let players know that the performance they are displaying is unacceptable. Please correct me if I’m wrong ladies and gents.

lol it didn’t get the coach fired last year when Zak 41 called one. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Even Tampa Bay's Boles is known for being calm and collected on the sideline, and Baker was just talking earlier this season about how they are "having fun" in Tampa now.

This single-mindedness that there is only one way to have accountability and it's thru fear is wrong and foolish.

I agree there is way more than one way to promote accountability and excellence. And not all players respond the same so even within a broader style there needs to be some flexibility for different players.

Bill Wash for instance wasn't the yelling type but he demanded perfection.

That being said, whatever it is that DA is doing is not working. The little details are slipping and there appears to be no accountability or progress.

Oh come on. What owners publicly talk about the state of their team other than Jerry? Just because she is silent doesn't mean she doesn't care. She flew to Houston to meet with DeShaun Watson because DA and Loomis wanted to sign him and she wanted to vet him considering all the character issues with Watson. An owner who doesn't care doesn't do things like that.

I get that everyone is angry about the season, and the last 4 season, and just wants to see heads roll, but it's gotten ridiculous at this point with people taking personal shots at people they have never met and don't know. Gayle Benson has never done anything but write whatever checks need to be written to make her teams competitive, hired qualified people to run the franchises, and kept two professional sports franchises in a small market when she could have made multiple billions of dollars by selling them to the highest bidder. The personal attacks are just unwarranted and unsupported.
