Now we have to roll with Hill. (1 Viewer)

The most impressive thing about Taysom is he’s phenomenal running the ball on designed runs but he’s useless on scrambles. Rarely does it and has no feel for pass rush.

So much this - he is great on a head of steam - he’s not a quick starter and has trouble gettin the wheels moving from the pocket at a stand still. Ive always said if im gonna have Hill playin qb i would have him in a constantly moving pocket - if he is already at a trot he has better chance of burst to pick up easy yards, this allows AK to be used a floating under neath route and give headaches to defenses to some degree.

Keeping Hill as an attempted pure pocket passer takes away all of that. He has a poor pocket presence tends to hold on to the ball and his ball security is not great, and like i said surprisingly slow from a stand still. He is at his best when he’s moving, which would also create openings down field. Almost like an option kind of qb… but not quite.

Anyways, we will see which way Payton goes, honestly its a tough decision, lack of weapons and qbs may make him use Trevor for that roll- risking Hill at this point could be very very risky.

Im sure they are looking ar available qbs on the market as well depending how far along in progressing Book is.

Hill has had years under Payton and Brees. There was a reason Payton chose Teddy. There was a reason Payton chose Winston. He had two chances after Brees. He didn’t pass the total QB muster.
Hill didn't pass your "QB muster" test, but Payton still says he's a starting QB. Choosing Teddy and Winston over Hill only means that Payton saw them as better options at the time than Hill, it doesn't mean Payton doesn't see Hill as a starting QB.

Again, what we think doesn't matter to Payton at all. He's going to do what he wants to do. Based on everything he has consistently said and done, Hill will be the starter when he clears protocol.

What will be intersting to see is if those who accused others of hoping Winston would fail, will now hope that Hill fails. I suspect many of them will. Like I said before it should be hyps, not fans.

He will use Hill until he gets someone better or Hill stinks it up. I still don’t trust Hill.

I get that you don't trust Hill. That doesn't make you a Hill hater. It's just your honest opinion.

Just like those who didn't trust Winston, weren't necessarily Winston haters. For some, it was just their honest opinion.

It's all subjective for those of us outside the team and a case can be made for or against either player. I respect that you don't like seeing people being called garbage. I don't like it either. I also don't like seeing people being called hater and anyone that was critical of anything about Winston was called a hater by some people.

I have no idea how things will play out with Hill. I already see a lot of the same people who vehemently defended Winston from criticism demanding that people give him chance are already insisting that Hill will be a failure and shouldn't even been given a chance.

Hill was with Payton for several seasons, but he did not get many reps in preseason or regular season as a QB before last year. If people have to give Winston more than 4 games, then if they are being objective and consistent, then they would give Hill more than four games.

If they are being biased, then they won't give Hill the same chance.

Never said I hated Hill. I’m just going on what I’ve seen and just don’t believe he’s capable. We will see.

I agree and it's so weird. I remember probably like 3-4 years ago now when he completely took over the second half of a preseason game by playing what I thought was his own style of scrambling and throwing but whenever he's gotten a chance in real games he outright refuses to play that way. I don't know if that's because Payton specifically asks him not to do it (but then what's the point of starting him over a more traditional passer?) or if he's trying to prove a point, but if he is the guy going forward I hope he gets back to that kind of thing.

I understand preseason against backups with vanilla schemes is way different but we know he can make plays against starting defenses, so I don't think the caliber of the competition is necessarily the issue here. It's either by design or in his head.

Taysom doesn't have to be great or carry this team. Taysom just needs to do ENOUGH to keep defenses honest and occasionally move the chains on 3rd and 6-10 at times.

If nothing else, the next few weeks will be interesting.

I think it would have been clearer had Taysom been healthy the last few weeks, but concussions are tricky. Back in the day they were just things you got through to get back on the field but these days it gets people thinking about their health in their 40's and 50's.

One thing that sticks in my mind though and that's Sean Payton has a soft spot for Siemian. During pre-season it was all about Taysom-Jameis and the rookie but he consistently reminded people that Siemian existed and was a good QB. No one ever asked about Siemian but he would bring him into the conversation. Obviously he wasn't given much of an opportunity to compete for a starting job, but he's around because Sean likes him as a QB.

But yeah, I haven't got a clue who's starting next week and beyond. My guess would be Siemian next week as Hill eases back in and then Hill, unless Siemian does a really good job and forces Payton to roll with the hot hand.

One of the things that stood out in Payton’s press conference was his comment that Siemian is a cerebral QB who remains dialled in at all times. It’s clear why Payton rates him as a backup. He never loses focus and doesn’t need a lot of reps to hit his stride, even if his QB play overall is quite pedestrian.

My sense is that Payton is 100% committed to Hill if he’s healthy. But part of me would like to see what Trevor can do as a starter for a few weeks with Taysom working back into his joker role. Mainly because we just don’t have any weapons on offence and Taysom gives us an extra target while Trevor will only ever be a traditional QB.

I suppose my concern is that Hill may retire or may not return to his joker role due to his concussion(s). I'm not saying it's likely, but it strikes me as a possibility.

As I say, I'm unsure of what will happen over the next few weeks. I know that Sean will choose the QB he feels gives him the best chance to win the next game, and the game after that, etc. He's 100% committed to winning, of that I am sure.
