He was my guy at that pickGregory Rousseau was selected 2 picks after we took Turner. I’m not buying that statement.
Exactly what I was thinking. Granderson (in a short, one game sample) is looking like a Beast. They need to be working on resigning the guy now, before he balls out and we won't be able to afford him.
I'm struggling to see any positives of Turner being out for the guts of this season. He's light years ahead of Foskey right now. It may be good for Foskey's development to be involved, but for the team as a whole, this is a negative. Whether Foskey develops and how quickly are question marks whereas Turner was a bona fide contributor to a strong rotation. While it's too early to definitively evaluate Foskey, I'm comfortable in saying that barely holding your own against mediocre, back up LT's is not a recipe to success against starting LT's, certainly not in the timeframe of this next 10 games. This isn’t bad. He needs reps. He needs to bulk a little. I guarantee he will make ppl feel different. He’s slight right now. The more he plays, the more he will learn how to use his strengths. Three preseason games playing with mediocre lineman next to him isn’t going to be a good enough measurement to determine his value. If he gets 10 snaps next game, they should all be on passing situations.
I think the issue is that Turner wasn’t going to be able to stay on the field regardless, so better to develop someone else.I'm struggling to see any positives of Turner being out for the guts of this season. So yes, this is bad.
Well, I don't think that it was inevitable that he got injured again and if he did, that it was something requiring surgery, and in the first game. Possible certainly, probable perhaps, but absolutely certain, no - otherwise why wasn't he just cut a couple of weeks ago?I think the issue is that Turner wasn’t going to be able to stay on the field regardless, so better to develop someone else.
While inevitably the logic may occur that in this stratosphere a player that succumbs to injuries every year has a chance to be injured again. So, in reality of the situation, someone else has to be trained to do the job. So, Foskey getting reps helps the team rather than hurting it. Perverse logic is not applied here because I did not say I wanted Turner hurt, but rather think Foskey could use some reps. Sometimes you have to notice a trend and in Turners instance, he has been hurt every time he touches the field.Well, I don't think that it was inevitable that he got injured again and if he did, that it was something requiring surgery, and in the first game. And while your argument has a perverse logic, I'm not comfortable with the notion that it's good that Turner got injured because, now that he's injured, we don't have to bother with him anymore and worry about him getting injured - and don't worry, we have a guy who's not injured but isn't as good or ready to produce right now and may never even develop.
Davenport 2.0
I guess if there's any consolation prize, we could turn down his option after the season and sign him to a cheap deal and see if he ever turns the corner. We couldn't do it with Davenport since he's shown enough for him to chase the market. Turner should have absolutely no interest on the market. We would be lucky if he were Davenport 2.0. As much as Davenport stayed hurt, the 2 1's we used on him, and the down year when he finally was able to stay healthy - he showed insanely more ability that Turner. Davenport just never turned the corner. Turner never left Houston.
Turner is a bust through and through. Davenport at least had 21.5 sacks.
