PSA - get your colonoscopy (2 Viewers)

Oh, it isn't my first one. But prep day just gives me the blues. As a type 1 diabetic, things have to be handled so differently to keep my blood sugar from plummeting.
once again good luck. I hate them but the reward is greater than the risk. Catching colon cancer because you put one
off. It can be tragic. If a day or two of miscomfort saves my life it's well worth it. If it doesn't I'll still have peace of mind.

With no history the new suggestion is 45. So, if you talked to your doctor they could probably write up a referral for some
Reason or another. Got any bad habits that might raise the risk?
I feel like it’s one of those things that could actually save the insurance company money if done earlier, so they should want you to get it out the way. Maybe just limit how often you can get them.

Probably depends on insurance, but it's 50 for no history and 40 if there is history from a quick google search. Definitely not medical advice. Honestly, talk to your Dr.
That's what i had been reading. I'm 40 and happy to get one, though i want insurance to cover it.

Colorado beer offer remains open for all you getting this done.

I’m not quite of age yet, but some history has caused my doc to go ahead and get this on the schedule.

December 20th for me.
Do yourself a favor and ensure they'll give you general anesthesia. I think it's pretty much a standard practice to do that now, but in case it isn't clear:

You want general anesthesia.

You do not want twilight whatever.

You really do not want the twilight.

Twilight doesn't work for some of us.

They definitely said twilight. I thought I was getting an expressionless vampire to hold my hand during the procedure but now I'm confused.

This page has some pretty good information on it:

I was awake for an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. My doctor repeatedly told me that I wasn't awake and I won't remember anything and I told him that I am absolutely awake and me choking on the endoscope and in pain from the colonoscopy is not from me being asleep or in twilight.

After a few back-and-forths, I finally yelled "look mother******, I'm awake"

When I went in for my follow-up a couple weeks later, I sat down next to him and said "I guess I owe you an apology for what I called you." He looked up at me with this amazed look and said "you remember that?". I said, I told you several times that I was awake, of course I remember."

He told me that they had given me triple the dose of the twilight drugs, but I guess that I was too amped for them to work. We agreed we wouldn't go that route next time. :hihi:

That was over 22 years ago and I still remember. I go to a different doc now, but I've been put under for all procedures since that one.
