Rumor- "samuel Said To Be A "done Deal""

Yeah, hard to know if it's true or not.

But, I would like to know you opinion on Samuel converting to a man to man corner. Obviously it did not work well with David, but I'd have to think that Samuel's ball skills will translate. Do you think he can make the transition?

No converting/transition necessary. Asante is a top 5 corner for a reason. He can play all the schemes.

I don't see why they don't just allow teams to talk with Free agents after the Super bowl, or the Pro Bowl even. You can still set it up when they can't sign until a specific date, but we all know he is going to be a free agent.

No matter where you draw the line, teams are still going to cross it. And the problem with drawing the line at the Super Bowl is that the teams who are playing deep in the postseason would be pre-occupied with trying to finish the current season with a Superbowl while other teams undoubtedly would already be shopping for players for the next season. I think the system is fine like it is. Everyone has a certain amount of "dead time" to evaluate their current roster and establish their offseason priorities before the next season officially "begins."

I'm definitely exciting about adding a top name FA to our roster.

I'm also exciting about helping this thread reach 10 pages by morning...lol

This is a big move.

The words 'DONE DEAL' makes me think this is true.

Those are strong words.

I know that no one wants to hear this, bu please just remember, don't get your hopes up yet. PFT has been known to "whiff" on stuff like this in the past because they're more willing to step out on a limb than other sites. And the fact that they use the phrase "there's been talk in league circles" is just vague enough for me to be skeptical. I'd rather be pleasantly suprised than completely let down.

the big question is....is Asante a system player that fit well with NE or can he come here and also be a top notch corner....i mean we have all seen what happened with JD....

You're right....and with 2 1/2 days to go.....this will be a long few days.

I'd love to get Samuel but right now I'm going to assume he's going elsewhere to keep from getting my hopes up.

Asante Samuel
Mike Mckenzie
Jason David
Chevis Jackson
Usama Young

Cut Fred Thomas and Jason Craft.

If we keep craft and dont draft another corner in the late rounds, all we'd have would be a bunch of short CBs.

true im not too sold on asante but in his defense jd was NEVER on his level. jd never led the league in anything except big plays.

I really think people need to get over this fear. I mean Jason David has never even been mentioned as being in the same league as Asante when he was on the Colts superbowl team. Hell I remember reading thoughts on him from posters on colts boards and analysts and most considered him marginal, mediocre and a solid number 2 guy at best and many questioned the trade highly. Even if we saw the same ratio of a performance drop from Asante as we did from David we would still end up with a good to pretty darn good corner.

And if he does end up being only pretty good or good you just get him to restructure. I mean come on for him to come in and be as bad as jason david or near it he would have to drop off his peformance astronomically more than david did.

Note *I'm not really directing this at you but at everyone who keeps thinking he may just be Jason David jr."
