Rumor- "samuel Said To Be A "done Deal"" (2 Viewers)

the big question is....is Asante a system player that fit well with NE or can he come here and also be a top notch corner....i mean we have all seen what happened with JD....

true im not too sold on asante but in his defense jd was NEVER on his level. jd never led the league in anything except big plays.

maybe but the colts playnothing likethe defense that the pats do soi think its not comparable.

I really think people need to get over this fear. I mean Jason David has never even been mentioned as being in the same league as Asante when he was on the Colts superbowl team. Hell I remember reading thoughts on him from posters on colts boards and analysts and most considered him marginal, mediocre and a solid number 2 guy at best and many questioned the trade highly. Even if we saw the same ratio of a performance drop from Asante as we did from David we would still end up with a good to pretty darn good corner.

And if he does end up being only pretty good or good you just get him to restructure. I mean come on for him to come in and be as bad as jason david or near it he would have to drop off his peformance astronomically more than david did.

Note *I'm not really directing this at you but at everyone who keeps thinking he may just be Jason David jr."

I agree 100%, Jason david never was, and never will be in this guys league,

Asante is in the top 3 corners in the league

If this is true, looks like we are going BIG or going home. And I LOVE it. Now lets draft us a pass rusher/impact player that can start immediately and another CB and this will be a fun year to watch

This board would be crushed if he goes to someone in the division.

I know I would. Plus he fits the tampa system

I think bringing in Samuel does 2 things for us:

1.) Improves the D (Obviously)

2.) Lets other FA's know we are trying to be a contender again and are willing to make the moves to win. It could help give Vilma and Rogers and the like reason to negotiate trades to come here with the knowledge we want a Super Bowl NOW.

on nfl live.. they are saying maybe to TB?
I saw this, Eric Allen said he's built for the Tampa 2. Which is funny, because the guys on Sirius's The Red Zone (Daryl Johnston, Bruce Murray and Gil Brandt) blasted some Tampa fan who was excited about the possibility of signing Asante.

They basically told him he's not physical enough for Monte's system.

Kinda off topic but just responding to the "what do we draft if we get samuel" questions, I think there are a number of good to very good d tackles that we could get in round 2, maybe even three. I dont like Balmer, anyone who gets the sullivan comparison scares me to death. If by some miracle Dorsey or Ellis drops take em, other wise go with BPA in one or trade up or down then get your DT later.

I would def take the opinion of those 3, then Eric Allen...those guys are personnel gurus especially Brandt.

But I'm mixed on Samuel (if we even sign him for sure)...maybe cause of the David experiment, and handing out a BIG contract.

But this guy is def a BEAST, and Champ Bailey said after him that Samuel is the best CB in the league (that's saying something, don't ya think?). The Pats play everything...including man-to-man.

10 page thread created... i did it mom lol..... but in all seriousness if the deal happens(better be true) there is no way a single sober saints fan can knock this move.... we are shoring up our most glaring weakness (please dont tell me lb or dt, give up a touchdown a game guaranteed on a deep pass), with a player whose definetly at the top 5 at his position (and thats being generous, hes definetly top 3)

You, sir, are underestimating us Saints fans. I garauntee at least 50 "Assante Samuelss = Jason Davide" threads by the start of the season. :tbhdance:
