Rumor- "samuel Said To Be A "done Deal"" (1 Viewer)

I was listening to a radio talk show yesterday afternoon, I'm not sure who it was because I found it in the middle of the conversation, but this guy was supposedly someone who knew the Saints Organization. He was saying that Samuels was a very high possibility. He didn't go as far to say that it was a "done deal," but he did say that it was a very high probability. He also said that Michael Turner was another who the Saints were targeting. He said they are very high on him and talked like he was gonna be the starter. He never mentioned Deuce much so that concerned me.
This guy also said that the Saints really thought they had Zach Thomas and they were disappointed when he signed with Dallas. He said they are targeting Vilma and other LB's, possibly Briggs, that were to become FAs on Friday.
As for WRs he never really mentioned any big names. They are expecting Meachem to be ready and if not they will need a legitimate #2 WR. He said they don't plan to re-sign Devery Henderson.
Now what surprised me was he didn't talk like they just wanted one of the big name guys, but all. He said they want to make it known they are serious about building a contender. He said they plan on being one of the top teams on a shopping spree this FA period.

Anyway, alot of this has been discussed numeroous times, but I just wanted to share what I heard. The guy may have been full of it for all I know. I wasn't picking up the station good and like I said I didn't hear the name of teh show or the person talking. I didn't recognize the guys.

What station was this? Sirius or FM?

Asante is the consummate shutdown corner/bonafide starter. Rarely does a rookie CB come in and dominate the way an Asante type CB will. If ARC can contribute immediately great but my money will be on Asante. All of our young CB's can learn a great deal under Asante as well as MM from the sideline till he gets back on the field.

Asante=shutdown corner
safety blanket=depth (for MM (health) and David (obvious))

Either FM or AM. I was searching for anything Football related. I had my 10 yr old son with me and he was in the mood to talk. I was trying to listen to him and catch what the guy was saying. Trust me, when my son wants to talk.....he talks!

Solidify the D

We've got to start some where in making a solid defense. Why not start with a serious bid for A.Samuel's services? Heck, make a run for J.Vilma and L.Briggs as well. Let's go big.

The defense is a unit with many parts which all have an effect on one another. It is true that a corner can only cover a receiver so long, but it is also true that the opposition's tackles can probably only cover Will Smith and dare I say Charles Grant for so long. If a QB sees Jason David playing 10 yards off, it's not going to be hard to complete passes, just as with our awful safeties in coverage a stop and go route is going to work a lot. If Samuel and hopefully McKenzie are our corners and can be in position for 5 seconds then it's going to give Will Smith and Grant and the defensive tackles more time to get to the quarterback. I agree that if true no-one can complain about this signing. I think in our scheme Jason David can also be an asset, rather than a liability playing nickle

YEAH!!! Finally someone can see that it works both ways. :9:

Not to mention, the opposing argument is a little off. There is NO playmaking DT available, so we are supposed to skip this need because our first one is unfixable right now? :covri:

If they sign Asante, it's a good sign McKenzie won't be back due to injury, salary, and/or age.

Mike was having close to a Pro-Bowl season last year, with some help of the target that Jason David had on his back. I could see him playing for us for years to come, especially if he becomes our #2 corner. I look at him as a one the leaders of our Defense, with Smith and Grant.

I see MM being a safety when he comes back. I think they will work him in slow and let him be a safety or slot CB till the end of the year.

It might just be my ill-informed opinion, but I'm all for that and pretty excited about it.

What would he excel in more you think, FS or SS? I would think SS since he's pretty good at run stopping...

Yea he's good at run-stopping but there's no need to move McKenzie to SS b/c I truly belive Roman will have a break-out year. Besides, if McKenzie moves to FS, he can better utilize his cover skills from his days as a cornerback.

With all of that being said.....I really hope they keep him at cornerback. MM and AS in bump and run man coverage will be a joy to watch.
