Rumor- "samuel Said To Be A "done Deal"" (1 Viewer)

What are you guys smoking? In the history of the NFL how many cornerbacks have been moved to safety? Maybe a handful. It's a totally different position that takes years of experience to master. On top of that, MM won't be a very good tackler for very long after his 190 lb frame tackles Brandon Jacobs or the likes 6-10 times a game.

Call me crazy but I give him moving to safety a .02 chance, but you never know I guess.

As far as the potential signing goes. I like our aggressiveness.

Why would we want to move Mike to safety or cut him, when we could have one of the best CBs in the NFL.
Imagine we get DRC and Samuel.
You are talking 7-8 years of CB stability.
The aim of any offseason is to become stabile at a need position for as long as possible. With the Samuel signing, although it is a lot of money, and a draft pick on CB, we have started off very well.

Anyone interested, there will be a Rosary held at my house in prayers for Samuel being signed by the Saints tonight at 7. :mwink:

Bring your own beads!!! :ezbill:

I see MM being a safety when he comes back. I think they will work him in slow and let him be a safety or slot CB till the end of the year.
What? MM will not be a safety. He is a solid man CB. It would be crazy to attempt to move him to safety.

Guys, we are all excited. Me too.

But please stop counting our chickens before they're hatched. Based on some of these threads that I am reading, some of you are already sitting around with your Saints "Samuel" jerseys.

Oh yea, I don't care who we bring in, MM will not be a safety. So, please stop that.

I hope like **** we get Samuel. We are in dire need of help at cb (captain obvious) and MM is not likely to be at 100% this year if indeed he is able to return at all in 2008. Remember, he tore hsi ACL very late last year, wasn't it the last game?

Domonique Foxworth is a fa in Denver and, while he's not a shut-down corner like Samuel, would be an excellent compliment to Samuel.

MM is a beast and if we get Asante then I am sure the Saints will still have Mike(when he comes back) on one side and Asante on the other...No #1 or #2.

MM will not play safety this year...that is just rediculous.

I just really hope Dorsey or Ellis fall, but if not...then

Dream Draft:
1. DRC-even with Asante, the Saints need someone to start immediately until MM gets back, DRC then becomes the best nickel back in history until MM retires.

2. Trevor Laws-force of a DT and will vastly improve the D. Would tandem well with Clancy and Thomas to free Will and Chuck on the edge.

Fixed that jersey for you. Yay for tampering!

I think Foxworth would be a great pickup, even if we somehow land Samuel. Foxworth could be a legitimate 3rd CB. He's fast and has shown some promise. He wouldn't be nearly as expensive as some of the others. He may even be the #2 guy until McKenzie is 100%.
I don't think the Saints intend to cut Mike. I also don't see him moving to Safety. I think they know he's got a long ways to go for recovery and they don't want another wasted season.

Saints in Lead to Sign Asante Samuel

New England Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel is less than 48 hours away from becoming an unrestricted free agent, and the New Orleans Saints are the early favorites to sign him. In fact, some league observers believe the Saints and Samuel's agent have already engaged in some early (and technically against the rules) contract negotiations that could land Samuel in New Orleans before the weekend is over.

Fox Sports reports that the Saints are in the lead to give Samuel the contract of $10 million to $11 million a year that he seeks. Pro Football Talk reports that there's talk in league circles that the deal has already been worked out.

A shutdown cornerback is the Saints' highest priority this off-season. New Orleans had the worst pass defense in the league last season, and that was the biggest reason the Saints declined from the NFC Championship Game to missing the playoffs. Having Samuel cost $10 million a year or more against the salary cap is an awfully big investment and probably too much money, but it's better than standing pat.
