Saints and Carr deal released $150M over 4 years $100M fully guaranteed (1 Viewer)

Outside of MT and Kamara, Payton left the cupboard pretty bare on the offensive side of the ball. DA "is" getting those pieces. Olave and Shaheed last year. Carr this year, and they will likely pick up more in the draft. The Saints are going to be a lot better this year than some are giving them credit for.
And the beauty is that they don’t need an offense like Payton led - they just need one that can sustain some drives and give the defense some support. The defense will have its challenges with some free agent losses - but I feel like they are still the strength of the team. If that remains the case, we can have a successful season in a very down NFC south.

The Saints were never going to draft a QB in the 1st round. The only time they have ever drafted a QB in the 1st round in their entire history was Archie Manning. Archie was a great QB but what exactly did the Saints do with him to get to the playoffs?

Not to rehash it, but this is why the “leaning towards the Jets” thing bugged me last night. If that’s all you’ve got as an agent is to leak that for “leverage,” then it’s a weak move. Although judging by Carr’s contract, I guess he really didn’t have anything leverage-wise.

JMO.

Bingo. I firmly believe they had no other real, ready-to-be-signed offers out there. It was all a leverage game.

Then why don't we get those few pieces? Oh yeah, we can't afford.

Every single team you listed had a Hall of Fame QB that won MVP's. Do you think Derek Carr is that guy?
Stafford wasn’t any more of a HOF QB than Carr before the SB win (and maybe still isn’t).

And you get those pieces through the draft and FA. Neither of which have begun yet.

We signed Landry as one of those pieces last year and it didn’t work out. We signed Emmanuel Sanders as one a few years ago during our “cap hell” and it worked out a bit better.

We have consistently been able to add pieces and we will continue to do the same.

Stafford didn't play on the greatest show on turf Rams of the 2000's. That was Kurt Warner.

I missed the specific part about the 2000s rams. But the point stands. Teams can piece together a roster and then add a top-15 QB and win the SB. It happened with Stafford and that Rams team.

And my other point stands. We have added pieces, we can add pieces and we will add pieces. Regardless of what anyone believes of our cap situation.

Possibly with our defense yes Carr could be that guy. He has the skill to be. As for pieces we will find a way to create more space or we will draft them or trade away an area of strength for the piece. Carr has a luxury that Brees was rarely afforded, A defense than holds the other side to a couple scores. Do you remember how many games we lost in 2022 by 3 or 7 points? 7 games is the answer and two more games were decided by 8 points. Carr is more than a touchdown per game better than Dalton.

How many MVPs did Drew Brees win? Are you saying he was not an effective QB?
not to compare Brees and Carr, but ZERO people expected Brees to be what he became after seeing him play in SD. He was actually beched in favor of Doug Flutie at one point. Bress was a second chance QB. So I am not ready to write off Carr as a bust just because...

Not just that:
Bill Belichick (Will be first ballot HOF)
Dick Vermeil (HOF Coach)
Bill Walsh (HOF Coach)
George Seifert (Should be in the Hall)

That actually due to the fact that everytime we got to the red zone, PC would pull plays out his butt instead of his head and we would have to settle for field goals. And Carr and Dalton had the exact same TD rate last season, with Dalton actually being better in the RZ. If anything, that will have to be a focus for this team this offseason.

I was not a fan of signing Tampa Bays castoff and feel the same about getting the Raiders trash. I hope Carr does well, but I don’t think he is the answer. Is he better than Dalton at this point in his career? Is he worth the money to find out? I hope the answer is yes, but know one can say for certain.

I have no doubt there were many "why did we sign Drew Brees" threads, probably as many as "why did we sign Jameis Winston Threads".
You win some and you lose some.

Has DA spoken about the Derek Carr signing yet? If not, I'd like to take the over on how many times he says the word "look".

“Look” is the new “Listen”/“In regards”/“By and large.”

I say there were a lot less questioning the Brees signing though remember that and said he is hurt??? Never questioned his on the field skills, since all who dats were hoping for the one..... now that we know what the one looks like many will guestion the next QBs in New Orleans
