Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (339 Viewers)

Lets make this really simple. We no longer have the players that made games 1 and 2 successful as evidenced by games 3 and 4. Solution: Get a player that would allow you to get back to what made you successful. Or continue to have close one score games. D Adams is on a 12 game rental. His last two years are voidable. So if we didnt want him past this year it wouldnt cost us anything. He'd go into free agency, no harm no foul. So by all means rent the guy for the next 12 games and see what happens.

Thing is that he's going to want a new contract if he comes here in trade. I can't see that guy playing on what amounts to a one year contract with no guaranteed money beyond this year. And I doubt the Saints would trade anything for just 12 games anyway. Whether it is worth is will depend on the numbers and the cost of a trade.

But I can't help but thinking that we would be giving a 32 year-old WR a longish term contract while refusing to do the same with Kamara which kind of doesn't sit right with me. That is unless they need to extend Kamara to fit Adams under the cap which is certainly possible.

Raiders are cash poor. They can't cut checks to players the way a lot of teams can. NOF was just talking about that on their stream.
Restructuring bonuses are rarely an immediate check. They are usually deferred and paid in installments, as are signing bonuses. The Raiders may still not be able to afford it, but I think it’s a misconception that players are pocketing a check for the full amount right when their contract gets restructured.

Eat the Salary too Raiders and I'll give you a conditional 3rd.

I asked my friend for trade compensation details and he said he had nothing right now. Did say the Saints hiring of Keith Williams while also having Carr was a clear wink at Adams before the season ever started.

Serious question. Let's say the Saints traded for Adams and they made the numbers work. How much of an impact would Adams have if Carr doesn't have time to throw? I know Adams is great but if Carr is forced to throw off of his back foot and his passes are getting blocked at the LOS, wouldn't Adams just being a shiny new hood ornament on a Cadillac on blocks?

That's my question as well. What about the struggling OL? However I will say that Adams would be a major upgrade over Shaheed in the short to intermediate game and give the Saints two #1 WRs with Olave. If Adams can pull off a 2018/19 Michael "Everyone looks better because of me" Thomas season, then his value would be immeasurable.

Yep, this could be a monkey wrench in things. They may not be able to absorb much, or better put, will be a lot less reluctant to, for reasons outside of pure football/cap management purposes.

I wouldn't expect the Raiders to bench Adams like they did to Carr, they had to bench Carr because he had injury guarantees in his contract. Adams doesn't have any, so he could suffer a major injury today and be released without any compensation due after this season is over.
Yeah, but they want to trade him soon and get some value from him. If he gets injured, it could torpedo his trade value.

McCoy and Ruiz aren’t out for the year. Our OL issues are manageable. Are we perfect, no, but I do think adding an Adams would make defenses think twice about sending extra pressure at least.

Teams haven't really had to send extra pressure to get to Carr in the last 2 games. DTs are just blowing up the middle of the line. Hopefully that will change when Ruiz gets backs and get even better when McCoy comes back. And hopefully we are still in the hunt by the time that happens.

His oline in Oakland was garbage too

I’m feeling the same way, if Vegas plans to do right by him and allow him to choose his spot. There’s no doubt in my mind that he wants in with Carr and Williams.
Oddly enough I feel like he will be a Saint also.

If not he will be a Jet. I’ll guarantee one of those two places.

I feel like Ruiz gets a lot of help from McCoy. He's a real wild card sandwiched between Penning and Lemieux. He really struggled badly last year when McCoy had to help both him and Hurst.
