Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (1 Viewer)

Well, McCoy is out 6-8 weeks.
McCoy went out in week 3, I think optimistically he'll be back by the Falcons game in November. If that's the case and the Saints find a way to snap this losing streak and beat the Bucs, the season would still be in good shape. If they went 3-2 and win their division games, they'd be at 5-5, healthy and a legit chance to get to 10 wins if they finish 5-2.
Ruiz isn't being talked about in terms of time frame.
i dont know his status, but i thought his was week to week.
Taysom has broken ribs.
rHe's week to week, no? Ribs just take time to heal. Depending on severity, he can play with the rib injury, but better to let him heal up as much as possible.
Carr is now out.
Yes, and we dont know how long, but that's likely a week to week decision.
The team is coming off 3 straight losses and looking at 2 more in the next 9 days.
If they lose the next 2, I'll be on board with writing off the season. Not before then.
Even if Adams were to miraculously improve the team and they were to win 50% of the games after that, we'd be 7-10.
eI'm definitely not on board with getting Adams just to win 50% of the games. Theres no guarantees, but getting him and not making a playoff run would be bad.
It just doesn't seem like the right kind of move to make for this team right now, with it's 2024 prospects not looking promising, the cost to acquire him being high and potentially harmful to the future roster and then the cost to keep him on the roster beyond 2024.
The difference is i haven't given up on this season, and that's primarily why I want Adams. If i didn't think the team could get on a run, I'd be right with you.
Improving the team is great, mortgaging more of the future for this season not so much.
I don't think giving up a 3rd rounder is mortgaging the future. And I think ML can make the money work, by the Raiders eating a chunk of his salary and reworking a deal after the season, we can deal with it then. His salary isn't guaranteed, so we can always cut him after the season if we go a different direction. There's really that much risk there. The 3 round pick counts as part of the risk profile, but if the reward is a possible playoff run, you strike the iron while it's hot.

Because that is EXACTLY how his current contract is set up. We cannot afford him after this year.
It's been said again and again, his contract isn't guaranteed, we could cut him or re-work a deal. Where is the risk there?
Because since his contract is for one year before we have to cut him why would we waste a potentially top 10 pick in the 2nd round on him?
We aren't giving up a 2nd for him. I'm down with a 3rd or 4th, but not a 2nd.
We cannot even get Olave the ball why are we worried about Adams? Are we all of the sudden going to be able to block long enough for plays to develop? No!
Adams is much better than any of our WRs at catching the ball in traffic. That's his bread and butter. He makes several of those missed catches last night. Don't think it would have changed the outcome, but it could in future games.

Don’t feel bad I thought the same thing.
I still think it’s true, but I change it not being an elaborate hoax by Carr. Instead, a brave but desperate throw that happens fairly often enough to see a pattern. It reminds me of the guy in the bar, surrounded by 6 other dudes about to kick his arse. The guy looks around, head fakes, and sucker punches the guy in the middle. Only to take a beating by all 6 after.

I'd bet most, if not all of the chatter about Adams today is coming from the Raiders attempting to push the market after the Jets just fired their HC and the Saints now have uncertainty at QB. That's two massive blows to the two teams who were obvious and interested suitors for Adams.

Haven't really heard a peep other than speculation...

Why are people acting like McCoy and Ruiz are out for the year or that Adams is 100% only being acquired for a single season playoff push and that’s it?

That’s the part I am not understanding. Why stop improving the team just because we have issues in that area?
All the backup OL and the backup QB will have to weather the storm for 4-5 more games. Then we get McCoy back to solidify the line again.
Hopefully Carr will just miss about 3 games or so. Haener will have to tough it out. And Kubiak better have a GREAT gameplan drawn up. (Having Taysom back to split the load with Kamara would be great too)

When this team is back to 100% healthy for the final 8 games or so, with Davante, this offense will be ridiculous!
