Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (2 Viewers)

Because that is EXACTLY how his current contract is set up. We cannot afford him after this year.

Because since his contract is for one year before we have to cut him why would we waste a potentially top 10 pick in the 2nd round on him?

We cannot even get Olave the ball why are we worried about Adams? Are we all of the sudden going to be able to block long enough for plays to develop? No!
Are you assuming he'd just keep his existing contract?

That's the whole point of him telling everyone he wants to play for the Jets or Saints. That means to the other 29 teams, if you trade for me, I will not sign any extension/restructure so you'll have to pay me $25M (or whatever it is) for 2025 and in 2026. Any of those teams won't trade draft picks for a half-year rental. And no way they're paying that insane contract.

If it's the Jets or Saints, he and his agent probably have an extension already drawn up and proposed. Right now it's looking more like NO since Carr still has several good years left. Rodgers has looked terrible all year, and he's old af

I don't think giving up a 3rd rounder is mortgaging the future. And I think ML can make the money work, by the Raiders eating a chunk of his salary and reworking a deal after the season, we can deal with it then. His salary isn't guaranteed, so we can always cut him after the season if we go a different direction. There's really that much risk there. The 3 round pick counts as part of the risk profile, but if the reward is a possible playoff run, you strike the iron while it's hot.
Even with what you said before this, the Raiders are not asking for a 3rd and they aren't looking to eat any of the money from what I understand. They want a 2nd and to pass his salary to the next team. That is the proposed trade right now. I don't see why they would even bother trading him if they had to pay him regardless. It sets up a lot of risk of making their front office and coaches look bad if he balls out somewhere else on their dime.

Plus, we would have to make the deal before the injured players get back or knowing that we were turning things around. Why would we do that knowing that we were going to have to cut him before the next league year? It's just throwing away a pick and forcing us to reshuffled future money midseason to get his salary under and leaving no room for other transactions we may need to make because of injuries. It just doesn't make any sense.

So you think he's going to willingly take a massive pay cut to play on a Saints team that's not contending?

I mean come on...

As i understand it, what the Raiders are asking id based on speculation. None of us know what they're actually willing to agree to. All i know is I wouldn't agree to anything more than a 3rd and the Raiders covering a chunk of the salary. They don't have to agree to it. If they don't, you walk away. And fwiw, Bill Belichick is on record saying the Raiders won't get more than a 4th for Adams, so there's that.

Adams don't care about all that. He just wants out. It's up to the Raiders to make it work if they're serious about moving Adams. No team is gonna take on his entire salary.

Plus, we would have to make the deal before the injured players get back or knowing that we were turning things around.
That's why I said there is some risk in acquiring him. It's just as likely to fail as to succeed. But I'd rather try and fail than not try at all.

If he helps the team make the playoffs, that would make the juice worth the squeeze. It might not work, but it does make sense.

I don't know. All I know is he's close to Carr and has expressed interest in playing with him. I don't know what he's willing to do. After the season, we can cut him or renegotiate his contract. He already knows the Saints won't be able to keep him on his current contract after this season.

For me it’s simple, trade for him even if it means burning a 2nd rounder to do it, but Raiders have to eat as much salary as possible, i.e. we only pay vet minimum for him the rest of the season.

Play out the season, if we make playoffs and it works then we work out an extension or rework the 25 million cap hit he has next season.

If we still miss the playoffs and it all goes to hell, cut Adams, fire the entire coaching staff, start working towards clearing the older players (this will take 2 seasons), find a young up and coming coach (throw the bag at Ben Johnson) and let it be known we will be patient while rebuilding with what will be a very young and cheap roster.

Well, if they are taking his salary and will take a 4th I guess I'm in. But they aren't going to do that. They already have to eat what's left of his $40 million signing bonus. Paying another $12 million for a 4th round pick is a fire-able offense. The Raiders are the poorest team in the league. They don't just toss around money like that.

He was close to ARod but left the Packers because the Raiders offered him more money.

Why would he limit himself now all of the sudden? Now we are gonna be without our starting QB for at a minimum 2 weeks.

We are staring down the barrel of 2-5.

Yeah, they're in a tough spot, no question. I guess we'll see what they do. And fwiw, I'm not really expecting the trade to happen, but it definitely would make things more interesting if it happens.

It's base salaries of $35.6 million in 2025 and $36.6 million in 2026. There is no $25 million cap hits in those years, that was his cap hit this year.

Adams was already on record as saying he was expecting Carr to be with the Raiders when he was making the deal with them. He was not a happy camper when he found out Carr was headed to the Saints. It's why he's expressed interest in the Saints.

Whether Adams goes to the Saints, I have no idea. We'll just have to wait and see. I hope it can happen, even if I'm not really expecting it to.
