Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (2 Viewers)

It's base salaries of $35.6 million in 2025 and $36.6 million in 2026. There is no $25 million cap hits in those years, that was his cap hit this year.
2 and 3 are right next to each other on the keyboard, simple typo.

Point I’m making still stands the same. We owe it to Cam, Demario, Kamara, HB etc to do everything possible to get them a championship. Go all in (not trading the 1st) and take one final shot.

We do not owe those players anything but our appreciation. They get paid ridiculous amounts of money to play a kids game and have all played well and not won it all because it's hard to win it all. But there is zero reason to go all in for those guys and harm the teams ability to get better in the future. Whether it's making the cap worse than it already is or trading away desperately needed draft picks, it just isn't worth it while on a 3 game losing streak and having a backup offensive line and QB for the time being. If we were playing great all around and needed just one piece to really solidify the team, that would be something else. But that's not what this team is.

Why are people acting like McCoy and Ruiz are out for the year or that Adams is 100% only being acquired for a single season playoff push and that’s it?

That’s the part I am not understanding. Why stop improving the team just because we have issues in that area?
My only issue with him is that he’s ancient for a wide receiver not named Jerry Rice or TO.

Isn’t he about to be 32 or 33?

Aren’t we limited on cap space? Speaking of having Adams after this season. Would he take a reduced salary to remain in New Orleans? I think that’s why folks believe it would just be a rental. Age and the cap.

Great post. Some folks think we’re only a player away. Which is certainly their prerogative.
What movie is that again?
The Big Lebowski.

I think we're more than a player away, but that doesn't mean we can't win games and be successful if the team is healthy. The problem is we aren't healthy and our depth won't go far.

Indeed.
I agree with that. Had we not been decimated I think we were on our way to a very successful season, I really do.

And this is coming from a lifelong pessimist pertaining to the Saints.

For me it’s simple, trade for him even if it means burning a 2nd rounder to do it, but Raiders have to eat as much salary as possible, i.e. we only pay vet minimum for him the rest of the season.

Play out the season, if we make playoffs and it works then we work out an extension or rework the 25 million cap hit he has next season.

If we still miss the playoffs and it all goes to hell, cut Adams, fire the entire coaching staff, start working towards clearing the older players (this will take 2 seasons), find a young up and coming coach (throw the bag at Ben Johnson) and let it be known we will be patient while rebuilding with what will be a very young and cheap roster.
I don't understand why you would want to burn a 2nd rounder with the thought that we may just cut him at the end of the season. A 2nd rounder for maybe 10-11 games seems steep

Looking at this team that has needs on the offensive and defensive line there is no way I give up anymore than a 3rd for Adams…..there are 2 teams in our own division right now that maybe closer than we are at this point….IMO

The D stunk last night….pass rush was nonexistent….and the vaunted secondary got torched….and we are pretty healthy on that side of the ball…..
SMH. If (and I don't think they are ) the Bucs and ATL are closer RIGHT NOW , it is only due to the mega amount of injuries we have at the moment
Again, even with all our injuries on O we had the lead with 2min or less in BOTH games. Not ONE of our injuries are season ending. EVERYONE should be back no longer than 3 wks. Yes we have needs on the OL and a pass rusher but neither are more important than a game changing pass catcher that can get open and make the contested catch. The difference between a 2nd and 3rd rd pick is very little. Plus we'd still have our 1st and 3rd rd picks to address the OL and pass rusher. But I guess you just want to waste the final 2-3 yrs of AK ,Demario , HB , and Taysom

And I was only two numbers away from winning the Power Ball.

The point is the Saints are 2-3. We can "If' and "but" it all day long but the Saints are who they are. Kubiak is, so far, okay in my eye. The offense is a bit better compared to Pete Carmichael but he is not the piece. This team needs a lot of help. A LOT of help and it starts with a better head coach. This team is NOWHERE near contending for anything resembling a playoff spot. Amon is unfortunately right. We, as fans, may not want to admit it but he's right. The Saints window is shut. It's a bitter pill to swallow but it is shut.
Ridiculous analogy

Have you not read most of the posts in this thread ??

I'm not saying we need to give up too much for Adams, and apparently, other teams aren't willing to break the bank either, so the question is do the Raiders want to pay to make him go away? I mean, they're gonna pay regardless. The only question is how much.

As for the other needs, some of those we can't practically address immediately because there's no one readily available. Adams is available and that's why he's getting the bulk of the attention.

I'm sure ML has a proposal in mind and will walk away if the Raiders don't play along.
Also, if LV does not trade him this yr with the way his contract is set up they are not going to pay him what his contract says for 25 and 26. So they will cut him and get NOTHING for him, AND he'll be free to sign wherever he wants

This.

And with that, I believe that he will go to the New York Jets.

The Saints are not an attractive destination right now. No cap space and injuries aplenty. Yes, you can heal but for the immediate, not so much.

The Jets have more money to play and with, an easier schedule than the Saints and now that the owner Aaron Rod.........I mean Woody Johnson has fired Saleh, Rodgers can now tell his buddy, "Let's you and me show them how it's done."

And let's face it, the Jets are a bit reckless when it comes to these things.

Devante Adams will be a Jet by weeks end........
1st the Jets do not have an easier schedule than us. They play outside and winter is coming. but most of all they have NO HC!! And all the uncertainty that comes with that. AR is not playing well and may be his last yr but almost for sure 1 yr left. Hacket is an awful OC

McCoy is probably 4-5 weeks away, but otherwise yeah.

That said, there likely will be more injuries. Hopefully of the minor variety.
