Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (8 Viewers)

I don't want to blow it up, I want to clean it up and start building the future now. Adams isn't the future, he is some other teams past. The other players are under contract, but simply aren't good enough or young enough to get us there anymore. And I love a lot of those guys. DD is nearly done. He's 35 years old and blink away from falling off like Cam. HB is the same, he's going to lose a step against young guys soon. Taysom can't keep playing the way he's playing. He's too old and he gets hurt. Latt is great but is on and off disgruntled and about to get really expensive. It's not time to get older and more expensive.

I feel like you're hanging on to the present and I'm ready to get moving on to the future after a failed attempt at extending the success we had with Sean and Drew. It was a valiant effort, but I believe in our preseason prospects less and less every season and hope fades earlier every season.
I feel like what isn’t being acknowledged here w/ regards to Adams is that you have youth and talent at WR already. Tipton, Olave, Bub Means, and Shaheed are all on rookie contracts. I get the age, comparison to Cam but at DE because of misses in Davenport and Turner and now Foskey, the cupboard is fairly bare. So having a declining vet on a high contract in Jordan is bad management.

You can’t say that about WR. In fact the average age of the WR room is 24.8 years of age.

It NEEDS a vet more than another young talent.

As of right now that veteran WR has $82 million left on his contract. Do we need that?

Pretty sure Haener has the same amount of upside that Rattler has. The perceived difference is all hearsay at this point. The actual difference is just hype right now.
I'm a Haener believer, but the moment Rattler was drafted, he became the better prospect of the two.

It has nothing to do with SP or Brees. You say you don't want to blow it up , but essentially that's what would have to happen. We are 81 mil over the cap next yr in order to get cap compliant we are going to have to either restructure some of those aging players or cut them.
Demario, even if we post 6/1 cut him he has 4.5 mil in dead $, and we'd have to replace him.
Honey Badger, post 6/1 cut next yr 6.2 mil and we'd have to replace him
Taysom. 6/1 cut 8 mil.
AK , no cap hit next yr but would have to replace him
It would take 3-4 yrs of chipping away and cutting those players to get in good shape with the cap and who is going to take their place draft picks?? We have not been gang busters in the draft lately

For me I'd rather sign Adams for 2 yrs , extend AK , who after seeing him this yr playing very well and hurt as well, keep HB and Demario 1-2 more yrs at most. Address thet OL and DL in the draft and make a 2 yr run @ the SB. We'd have as good a chance as anyone else in the NFC

MY GOD E, will you get off that 81 mil. NOBODY not ONE team will pay him that kind of $$ for those next 2 yrs
Yeah, the beating that drum is so annoying. If we trade for him, no way in hell we're paying him that, so I don't understand why he keeps bringing it up.

Just sitting here dreaming about the WR trio of Adams/Olave/Shaheed. Easily the best trio in the league IMO. Gosh darn it Loomis make the darn deal and trade for Adams!!!
Loomis can't unless the Raiders agree to eat most of Adam's salary for this year.

You realize they’re not going to trade for him w/ out renegotiating that contract right?
He has to want to do that. And his agent has to want to lose his share of that money. It’s not a slam dunk that it gets worked out just because anyone wants it to. And the you have to have the Raiders agree to eat some of it. Nobody is getting traded unless there is a financial situation that makes sense and the one people keep proposing only benefits the Saints.

We’re not sure what’s the hold up. Maybe the Raiders are willing to eat the salary if the Saints give a 2nd rounder and Loomis doesn’t want to give that up. Only Saints FO and Raiders FO know for sure.
There was a report the other day that the Raiders are unwilling to eat the salary and that they wanted a 2nd and more. That may be posturing but unreasonable and Loomis is holding firm on what he will give as he should.

MY GOD, it's his actual current contract. Who in their right mind is throwing that away to go play for a 2-3 team with a busted QB and O Line? What players agent is going to do that?

Just because you want to think everyone is going to just tear up contracts and throw away money to play on the Saints doesn't make it so. There are at least a half dozen teams that could absorb that contract and deal with it later. We are not one of those teams because his contract isn't going from $81 million to even half of that. Dude isn't going to play for free.

Yeah, clearly some sort of stalemate has occurred, and if we all know Mickey Loomis, he ain’t budging from his value calculation. 😂

This could be a long wait.
