Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (1 Viewer)

That was also Cleveland. Let's see if that works against the Rams and Commanders.

I mean, there is no doubt we need an upgrade at WR from what we have now. But Olave and Shaheed will be back next year barring anything unusual, Means will be a year older, and maybe they bring back MVS. You are okay at WR with those guys and IMO the upgrade should come from the draft rather than spending money on a 32 year-old WR that maybe has 1 or 2 years left. We need a long term solution at WR.

If Adams comes cheap, then fine sign him, but don't sing him at the cost of not having the money to get a starting LG or upgrades on the DL.

You're right but it would not be a high priority in the draft so a 1st or 2nd might not have to be used

If the value is there, they should take a WR in any round they find one they like. Even if you sign Adams and he can still play, he is at best a one or two year solution. They need to fix the WR position for the long term.

Adams is going to want a bigish contract regardless of what happened in New York and I think he's going to get it from someone. And I suspect our spending the next offseason will be similar to this past offseason which means no big deals, maybe one medium sized deal (Young) and several lower level deals. (Gay, Harris, Wilson, etc.) I think Loomis is serious about getting the cap closer to even in anticipation of making a run and spending when they find a franchise QB.

So given the limited money we are likely to spend, I would much rather spend those limited resources on the DL or LG than at WR. If we keep running the same system we mostly use 2 WRs anyway and I would rather see the money spent on a real need along the DL and at LG. We can get by at WR with lower level guys like MVS, developing guys like Means, and drafting a WR in rounds 1 to 3. And maybe Means makes a big leap in year two or you hit big on WR in the draft.

To me Adams is the kind of guy you add to a team that is a good veteran WR away from making a run for the Super Bowl and the Saints aren't going to be that team next year.

And all of this is contingent on whether the Saints keep Derek Carr. I think they likely will, but there is a chance they hire a head coach that wants to move on or even Rizzi might want to move on. And if Carr goes, I see no way that Adams comes here.
I think Tae would be a good signing but my preferred course of action is if we make any kind of splash FA signing would be on the DL, either a DT that can push the pocket and be good against the run or an edge rusher. Then we can address WR in the 1st 2 rounds of the draft

MVS is 30. That’s old enough for a WR. Until he resumes dropping passes, re-sign him. Regardless of Olave’s status, draft a WR, preferably a CGM type.

I guess I missed whatever happened to drag this Zombie back to life. I'll wait till next season to care.

A 1st or 2nd does not need to be used on a WR anyway. They are always available. Diggs, Adams, Cooper, Hopkins, Williams. Everyone is looking to trade WRs. Build the rest of the team first then WRs will be available for pennies on the dollar.

That is my preference as well.

They are usually looking to trade WRs because they signed them to big contracts that they regret giving the WR. I'm not sure there is value at WR in the 1st round of this draft, but that changes year to year. But there probably is good value at WR in the 2nd or 3rd this year.

Exactly and we were about a year away from making that mistake with Olave.

Looks like it, and probably for cheap.
If we can sign him for whatever the minimum is, sure.
Except he won't be high priced. If you can get him on a vet minimum or close to it, you do it every time and twice on Sunday.

It's delusional to think he will be cheap, much less sign for the vet minimum which is under a million dollars.

First, it's only speculation at this point that the Jets may release Adams.

If they did, he may not clear waivers. Unlikely he would be claimed by a team out of the playoff race. More likely to be claimed by a team in the playoff race.

If not claimed off of waivers Adams would be free to sign with any team he chooses. Would likely sign with a playoff contender for the remainder of 2024.

Most believe if Adams were to be released by the Jets and become an unrestricted free agent, he would command upwards of $13 Million for 2025.

Cool, he won't be cheap and we won't sign him.

Davante Adams is not going to sign with the Saints.

The last thing Loomis needs to do is add a declining veteran to the cap. And if he just got effective guys off the street, then he's not going to chase Davante Adams.

If you're Davante Adams' agent, you look at the Saints and see a team with a busted cap, 4 meh seasons in a row, and possible transition at head coach and the staff. You know Loomis will lowball the offer. Derek Carr may be a close friend, but Aaron Rodger's situation shows that going to play with old veteran friends on non-contending teams is a bad idea.

This is a rational post, especially the last paragraph. It's crazy that you got a facepalm and a clown reaction for a reasonable take.

A 32-year-old receiver in 2025 turning 33 during the 2025 season that will cost at least $13 Million for one season is not the best approach to build on with cap resources.

If Davante Adams is an unrestricted free agent in 2025, he most likely will sign with a team he believes is a SB contender and will use him in their system to get there.
