Looks like it, and probably for cheap. So Davante Adams will be our big free agent signing in 2025…cool.

Indeed. It was never a contract/$ issue. The bellyaching about his contract was never warranted. And most likely the team and player came to an understanding of what would happen well before the trade was finalized. And interestingly enough, even though the Raiders didn't eat any of this year's salary, the rework allowed the Jets to push those dollars into the voidable years, so cutting him after this season doesn't hurt the Jets.
All that said, it's entirely possible the Adams to Saints talk was a ruse to get the Jets to agree to the conditional pick and Adams wasn't angling for the Saints as much as showing the Jets there was competition for his services.
Either way, it's water under the bridge at this point and I'm relieved we didn't give up a 3rd for him.
I mean, a lot has changed since I made that post. So...it's a whatever from me, lol.Except there is no guarantee how he would have reworked his deal with the Saints or if he would have at all. So it wasn't "bellyaching". It was the reality of the situations. Beyond that, we don't know the details of the deal and "voidable" is not the same thing as "void years". So, it could be a player or team options or a mutual option for a lot of money per year. Regardless, this team has no business giving up a 2nd or 3rd round pick for an older player who isn't exactly lighting the world on fire in N.Y.
Plus, since we did not have the cap space to eat Adam's contract for this year, we likely would have either had to do a different deal that pushed money into future years and/or had to give up a 2nd a maybe more to get the Raiders to eat the money on Adam's contract for this year.

Y’all still want him?
Jets May Cut Struggling WR Davante Adams Amid Disappointing Season
Davante Adams' time with the New York Jets may be short-lived as speculation mounts about his potential release after a disappointing season. The Jets, currentlbvmsports.com
We should absolutely kick the tires on him in the offseason. Just because his production went down with an in shambles Jets team with a almost washed up AR does not mean Kubiak could do wonders with him, especially with Olave and Shaheed and maybe MVS. WR is a priority I'd rather do it with the draft but if we sign him to a reasonable deal we could go DL in the draft

Agree. Sign Adams, re-sign MVS, get Olave and Shaheed healthy, with Means as the young understudy, and let’s roll. That’s a solid WR core right there, one you can win with.
I'm worried about Olave's concussion issues and as good as MVS has been since joining the team, I'm not fully sold on him yet. If he keeps performing like this until the end of the season, I'll be more confident, but he's still got a history of drops and why he hasn't stayed on a team. I do hope his career is rejuvenated but he still has to go out and do it.Agree. Sign Adams, re-sign MVS, get Olave and Shaheed healthy, with Means as the young understudy, and let’s roll. That's two question marks, and adding Adams who has had his own issues this season and he's not getting any younger, we really need a reliable WR1 and don't have that right now.
I understand they don't grow on trees, but you should still always be looking for one.Reliable #1s don’t grow on trees as you know. Think we have to put together a hodgepodge type group and hope one of them emerges.
A guy like McMillan would be a fun guy to get out of the draft to be a potential number 1 down the line, but he will likely be out of range (I see us winning several more games).
