You don't really believe that Gayle or Loomis wrote those press releases from the Saints do you? I'm sure Greg Bensel wrote both statements so neither is intended to go against the party line.
If these were off the cuff comments at a press conference or interview maybe things would slip out. But not in an official press release from the team.
The same guy that apologized to our most hated rival after beating the brakes off of them? No way would he do that. It would be great, but it would never happen.DA could have gone out on top had he just called Duncan a Hoe as he was leaving.
Take the wins one at a time. If DA hadn't been fired HE might have won 3 or 4 games and hurt our draft status AND hurt the possibility of getting rid of DA. Maybe we win only 1 or 2 games. Maybe we win 5 out of 8. Regardless, the season is a success in that next season will not start with DA leading this team.We aren't even coming close to the playoffs, but if Rizzi wins 3 or 4 games, we hurt our draft status. With DA, we likely would've had a top 3 pick in next year's first round. Now, we may not.
We don't need to jump the gun on any hires, and, instead, we need to hire Ben Johnson as soon as his season is over - if we have to wait til February to make that hire, so be it. If we have a top pick and give him a good contract, he'd be very tempted to come in, draft a QB1, and rebuild the team as he sees fit. He also needs a lot of control of draft picks (personally, I think Loomis should be fired at the end of the season and Jeff Ireland should be the GM). Assuming we only win 1 or 2 more games this season (or none hopefully), we'll have a top-2 or 3 pick in the draft. Despite what some think, we should then draft Shedeur Sanders or Quin Ewers or (3rd choice) Cam Ward - Sanders is a unique, special QB. Ewers has as much talent as any QB in the country. Ward has a ton of special qualities. Let's allow BJ to come in and re-build this team.
Archie and Dave Wilson are the only two 1st Round QBs we've ever drafted (Wilson was in the supplemental draft). My personal preference is Sanders, but I'd be very excited with Ewers or Ward too.
Naw that would be AB level crazy right there we cant have that, off the hingesThe same guy that apologized to our most hated rival after beating the brakes off of them? No way would he do that. It would be great, but it would never happen.
Have fun going on my ignore list.Naw that would be AB level crazy right there we cant have that, off the hinges
I think you have underestimated how petty some people can be.An underrated advantage of the Dennis Allen firing is that some of you are going to have to get new material and stop just saying "keep chopping wood" and "keep doing what you are doing" to get laughs.
Really think that i care, thats crazier then AB, MT and OJ on a podcast right there.Have fun going on my ignore list.
Totally agree. I was just thinking about remaining 2024 schedule.
I don't want any of those guys being Saints GM in 2025 forward. Mueller and Ireland are retreads with failed GM stints on their resume. Harley IS the same guy as ML. Zeigler doesn't ring a bell....is that the former Raiders exec? yeah, that's a hard pass for me too....
Find me a PERSONNEL guy. I'd be looking at the Ravens, Steelers, and Packers for that....teams with sustained success across multiple HC tenures. JMO...
I kind of wanted to keep him until the end of the year so that we could get the number one pick next year, but I'm just glad we actually canned him.I'm not saying he deserves credit. I honestly think Loomis was going to fire him but he would have likely waited until the end of the season due to their long term relationship. That's an issue with hiring a coach you have been close to for many years. You think of them as people and a friend which makes it harder to fire them. It's an issue none of us have because we don't have personal relationships with any of them.
I actually think that long term it might have been better to fire him at the end of the season so we get better draft picks to build with. But I do also get that it was destroying the locker room so maybe you never come back from it.
At any rate, I'm just happy that the DA era is over. It was tearing this place apart as much as it was tearing the team apart.
And I'm good with Loomis going too. I don't think he's done as bad of a job as some think and I don't have the blood lust some have for firing him. And I think he has adjusted to do things better the last 2 or 3 years, but it's probably time to move Loomis up and get some new young blood into the GM spot. He probably deserves one more shot to hire a head coach after going 1 for 2, but he's not getting any younger and oftentimes GMs don't get that chance with a hire as bad as DA.
Gonna miss this series. Great send off.
Who are these players that left us and became all pro? The only one I can think of is T Rex and that was because of covid. We have to stop giving big contracts to old players just so they can retire a Saint and letting young players leave to become all pro players for other teams...
