They'll start freaking out about not being able to assemble a staff because of the late hire.....
I doubt people are going to freak out over that, but it is somewhat of a reality unless he's pulling from teams that just finished up. The pool is certainly much smaller today than it was 3 weeks ago.

Not sure how any Saints fan can't be excited about this. While Moore has a ton of work to do, it's hard to not compare this to the Payton hire back in 06. Clearly Moore does not have a QB of the caliber of Brees on the roster and hopefully finding long term future at QB is a top priority. Either way I am super excited for the offseason. Going to be fun to see that staff and roster being built out over the next few months.
Exactly. For Saints fans this is an echo of the past. I'm so glad we have a bright, young offensive mind as HC again. The old saying about defense winning championships was true back when offenses lined up in the I formation and rammed at a 9 man box for 4 quarters but in this modern game, I'll gladly take my chances with offense.

But I'm going into this with a clear head and realistic expectations. The problems with this teams took years to develop and will take years to sort them out. Moore gets the first two years for free IMO. After that we'll see. Right now I'm just excited to see the staff he puts together and I'm anxious to see if the FO heads in another direction with the draft. How they approach it and the types of players they select. Hopefully they move away from the prototype projects and just draft good ball players.

It would be nice if the new DC has a flexible system that can use some of these freakish Edge players we see around the league that had no where to play in DA's system.

Carr can do it, just don’t know if he’s going to Superman dive during the attempt and get himself wiped out

He can do it. He's a better runner than his stats show, but he generally won't do it. As you know he tends to leave a lot of rushing yards on the field. I think his natural instinct is to keep looking for an open receiver rather than run. And at his age, maybe that's the smart thing to do. Certainly discretion would have been the better part of valor on that dive where he got hurt.

Welcome to New Orleans Mr Kellen Moore! Whodat nation will strive to be patient as you rebuild this team into something that we are proud to pull for on Sundays, Mondays, and the occasional Thursdays and Saturdays. ;)

Whodat!!!

And never forget that lightning can strike twice….

His natural instinct is "fork it and chuck it".... retreat and try to throw it as far as you can hoping it gets out of bounds.

That's only problematic, because the organization like to hold onto coaches a year too long.

When you're dealing with an unfavorable market with cast away coaches. I hope they aren't afraid to pay the bill to get off of a bad mistake instead of of just keeping them around.

IMO, it's all about the QB. We have to find a young QB. Hopefully one that is mobile enough to run for a key first down a few times a game. Once you have that you can really put together a team. Still, you can't force it so in the meantime we need to be taking BPA to build a talented team around our eventual QB.

I was reading up on him this morning, and couldn’t help but notice how few articles existed about his defensive chops that were written after the 2020 season with the Rams.
I’m a/ you Roux. From a logical standpoint Staley makes so much sense. Former failed HC who is a disciple of the Fangio scheme. Likely won’t get poached for another HC job for a while.

However the research I did suggest he may not teach his scheme as well as Fangio does, and the spacing in his pass coverage concepts tends to put the secondary in bad leverage positions.

Or maybe the coaches he hired did t do a good job, and the Dline didn’t get enough b gap pressure to make the scheme come alive

Supposedly this was why his Chargers defense failed so much on 3rd downs.

I read where he mostly helped the 49ers Defense w/ their 3rd down packages so that may be a good place to start.

How good or bad were the 49ers on 3rd last year?
