Saints making strongest push for Anquan Boldin??? (1 Viewer)

Boldin is a little younger than I thought -- remembered wrongly that his rookie year was '01, like Brees. Boldin actually came into the league in '03. Boldin is about 2 yrs & 8 months older than Marques Colston.

He played games last year, ~70 receptions and ~800 yards, as a wiley vet, who goes for about Vet Minimum. Wash and Buff passed...

He's clearly in better physical shape and condition then Colston was at any point in the past two seasons.

He beats man coverage deep several times in that highlight video as well.

I don't just think he could help us out offensively. He could be a difference maker, especially in some of the areas we struggled the most in. A thick physical, possession receiver like that is simply something we do not currently have on the team (Thomas' potential aside, he could be that guy eventually among other things). Coleman even at his size is nowhere near that kind of talent in traffic. Cooks and Snead fill their roles but aren't that kind of player either.

He can't hurt but I don't think he'll make much of a difference on the field in terms of production.

I do think he can be a guy that we can throw a quick WR screen to and he'll get a few tough yards, a guy that can make a back shoulder catch pretty much at will and a guy that will block.

Where he will make a big difference is his leadership.

A lot of teams, including us, passed on James Jones last year as well. Some of us lobbied to sign him.

I understand knowing GBs system probably helped him get that 890 yards he put up, but he was still a physical force as well and could of helped us. And at the end of the day, routes are routes. We aren't running special "Saints" routes here that Jones wouldn't of been able to run.

I hope we do not make that mistake again. We need a veteran savy WR on this team.

Which is the difference making I'm talking about. We need a guy who can get a 3rd and 6 in traffic and hold onto the ball. Those kinds of plays change games.

Colston used to be that guy, even after he was clearly no longer a #1 WR, but his hands went to crap the past few seasons and he just physically broke down.

I'm with you on this one, I thought he was gone back in March...last I heard, they [Wash] brought him in for a visit. It wasn't until a tweet yesterday that I knew he was still available. It can only be money...and I just google...can't find anything stating what he is asking.

Source says there isn't a push by the Saints to sign Anquan Boldin. They did look into it earlier in the summer but didn't make an offer.

Why would you say that? He hasn't played with anyone like a Brady, Brees, Rodgers...why would you not think he would at least match last year's output? I think he will surpass it, and be a leader on the field. Seriously, he had almost 800 yards playing on a dysfunctional team last year.
