Not one person that I can recall said this. Most were skeptical but willing to see if he would get more consistent. I think you're rewriting the narrative here. No one said he was gonna be DPOY.

2 teams are "garbage" and we are one of them. The Bucs have proven they are better than us and the Falcons are on an upward trajectory while we are on the downward.

If you want to think that, then fine, but with a new coach, new players and others returning, we're not in as bad shape as it might have appeared a few weeks ago.

The only team you can say for certain we are better than is the Panthers but even then it's close.

Maybe, but every season is a new one and they all start the season at 0-0. I'm liking the new coach so far and I'm good with the decisions he's making with the roster to this point. That’s not correct. The chances of a successful rebuild are extremely slim to almost non-existent. Just look at the Bears, Browns, Raiders, Cardinals, Jags, NYJets, the Lions before hitting on Dan Campbell.

Bears are about to completely 180 their franchise. They've rebuilt their OL and have their QB for the future. They rebuilt through tanking and clearing cap space.

Browns have not been tanking they had 11 wins two seasons ago. Terrible example. Their issue is the horrible piece of work they traded for.

Raiders have not been tanking LOL. They had Carr and did the same thing we are currently doing. Stuck in purgatory.

Jags is a good example of tanking not working.

Lions have all the talent on their roster from tanking.

Bengals tanked for Burrow and flipped their franchise.

Redskins have JD5 and now they're contenders.

Texans tanked for their QB and flipped their franchise.

There's plenty of other examples but these are just recent ones.

Would rather TRY to win and bridge with a soft rebuild for the next 2-3 years before turning everything over the youngins. And I think most on here feel the same way.

You can rebuild through the draft without sucking for 20 years. Look at KC and Philly. The key no matter how to do it is be good at drafting. Elite players can be found all through the draft. Picking high is no guarantee of getting elite players. The only way to do that is to be really good at scouting.

Picking high is no guarantee of elite players and that's why all those teams picked high for 20 plus years before it finally worked. And, frankly, Detroit may fall quickly without their OC, the Bengals are no better than we are, and the Texans are not exactly on an upward trajectory. As far as the Bears, it could go either way at this point. Williams is no sure thing to be a great QB. Even the Commanders are likely to come back to the pack after a great year with a lot of luck mixed in. Especially since they relied on a lot of older players on defense and they seem to be blowing cash on older free agents this year.

Neither of those are realistic outcomes. If we would have tanked and reset the cap immediately after Brees retired we would be in a completely different situation.

We can use the Patriots as an example moving forward.

Texans have made the playoffs the last two years. They are definitely on an upward trajectory.

Eventually the toll will come due with Mickey and co. There's only so many years of bad drafting and FA spending with backloaded contracts before we end up just bad enough to tank without trying.

Maybe that's this year, maybe that's next. The only way out is through drafting elite players which is significantly easier with higher picks.

2017 has shown it's possible to do so without having a high pick but we have been landing goose eggs since.

All those teams you mentioned, particularly the Lions, how long did they lose though until they hit on Campbell? Same for the Bears? And they still haven’t proven anything? Yes…the Browns, Jets, Jags..how long did they all actually suck/rebuild before getting it right? You can’t say the Bears are about to turn things around. That’s unknown. The Texans…..didn’t tank..just stunk. Appears they finally hit on a QB but he came back down to Earth in 2024. Redskins also have stunk for years and hit on JD5. Bengals didn’t tank either…they just stunk and hit on Burrow. With the exception of those first two years…really hasn’t done much since.

But you’re right….you have your opinion and I have mine. However, you do seem to be one of those that’s NEVER happy with anything the Saints do right, wrong or impartial. If they were to tank and rebuild , you seem to be one of those that would gripe and complain with the constant losing. I do hope I’m wrong about that. I hope I missed the mark.

You make the mistake of saying these teams are tanking on purpose to rebuild. They were/are not. They were not making that a conscious effort to trade away and cut players.

The Bears are in a better position because they found a dumb Panthers team that traded away a boat load of picks and very good player to move up to the #1 pick and pretty much waste it on Young. And then were so awful they had to give them the #1 pick in a yr where there was a very good prospect @QB. That's not a tanking formula that anyone can follow

The Browns having a couple of winning seasons in 20 yrs is NOT an example of NOT tanking

While the QB of the future question still lingers out there and we all wonder exactly how and when the Saints will address it.. in the short term, we really just have to start nailing some of our draft classes here, starting next month. Draft a defensive end high? He better be good at getting to the QB.. you know, stuff like that.

We need young talent that can stay on the field and we need depth.. now we just have to select the right players.
