Semper's Stupendous to Infinity and Beyond Everything Marvel Movie/TV Thread (8 Viewers)

I think they should have gone from the Infinity Saga to The Mutant Saga and made the phases about the X-Men and FF instead of trying to carry the Avengers stories forward and build on them. They could have built up the cosmic side of things through FF, GotG, Thor, and The Marvels leading to a Secret Wars storyline that felt a lot like X-Men vs. Avengers.

To me, that would have been better than this one leg in the past, one leg in the future approach.
I think the reason is they still want the past to push forward the future. And they want new characters and expansion of the current timeline to flow from the prime timeline. If they want to revisit things in the past or explore the multiverse with the new characters, they can do that. I just think they're trying expand things too far too fast. Maybe slow it down a bit and focus on fans getting to know a new generation of characters. There will be some overlap and some will pass the baton quickly while others might take a while, or not ever relinquish it.

I think Feige isn't finished and he'll adjust as things progress. I do think Disney has him doing too much. Let him focus on the big picture and movies and have someone else head up the small screen stuff.

I am a huge fan of the MCU, but at this point I kinda wish they had treated Endgame as a full-stop. End of the MCU, all actors released from contracts, etc. Then, start MCU version 2. Skip the origin stories since we all know them by now. Recast the big names (Iron Man, Thor, Cap, etc) and make new movies for those characters and/or new Avengers team-up movies. Integrate the Fantastic Four, Xmen, Moon Knight, Shang Chi, etc into this MCUv2. This would allow us to have the "real" Iron Man, Cap, etc interact with the FF and the Xmen (instead of the probable/eventual "FF meets Iron Heart" or "Xmen meet Shuri" storylines). It would open the door for additional established comic book story lines for the primary Avengers that didn't have a chance to shine in the original MCU.

Alas...

I was going to ask what the odds that Marvel would do a whole reboot and start from scratch with a new Iron Man, Spider man, Hulk, Thor etc.

I actually wouldn't mind a MCU set in the 1960s when all these comics were new

Yeah, keep in mind a lot of the source material from the early comics was set in the 30s and 40s. Captain America, Red Skull, Agent Carter, Howard Stark, super serum and soldiers, etc. I suppose some could originate in the 60s and be good origin stories.

I think we enjoyed the origin stories of Captain America, S.H.I.E.L.D, the Stark family, and each of the Avengers. I am somewhat surprised we never got a real Nick Fury origin story. We got bits and pieces of the Phil Coulson origin story but I would have liked more.

The thing is, I have a hard time separating the characters and the actors. Since the start of the MCU, we can count on one hand major characters who were recast. Iirc, Hulk was recast very early on, Rhodey, and I can't think of anyone else. For a franchise that has lasted as long as it has, the actors have been remarkably committed to their roles. If it's a hard reboot of everything, it would definitely be a huge change for MCU fans. Would be really risky imo.

Regardless, I'm not so sure it happens because they have years and years of movies and features before the well runs dry so to speak. I'm not sure they're near enough to an off-ramp to make that hard break.

Guess I was thinking more spiderman, hulk fantastic four etc

Agreed. Just bums me out that the prime Avengers characters are now excluded from any story lines with the to-be-introduced groups like FF and XM.

Victoria Alonzo has resigned from Marvel Studios.

Nobody knows what the circumstances are.

If you don't know that name, she is basically the third most important person in the company behind Feige and Louis D'esposito. Ahe was the exec in charge of post production, cgi, animation, etc as well as the Disney+ shows.

There has been a LOT of complaints about Marvel's handling of CGI artists and the amount of crunch they're forcing on them. The quality of the CGI has also been pretty bad for a while now.

Wonder if she was a sacrifice for Ant Man's failure or the general tepid response to the Disney+ shows

Whatever the case, this is huge. She's been there since the beginning, is hugely powerful in the studio, and is now out completely with no explanation on the heels of arguably their greatest failure. Speculation abounds.

Oh oh, is this like rats fleeing a sinking ship?

Purely my speculation, but I think she was given a "We will let you leave so we don't have to fire you" deal. People in the VFX industry despised her. The Disney+ shows are getting mixed (at best) reactions. The animation division has had a ton of issues since she took over.

She also was very vocal that the X-Men needed to be renamed because it was sexist. She harped on this a lot.

Right around Infinity War time, it seemed that Marvel could do no wrong and would just dominate forever. But now it seems they just can't get out of their own way. I know for me, every one of those movies were theater-appointments for me. I think Shang Chi and Thor are the only ones in this phase I've seen in theaters. Weird how these things can go south.

Well, in that case, good riddance. Their CGI has not been close to as good as it should be. I honestly haven't had too much of an issue with most of the D+ shows. But their CGI and VFX have been below par imo.

And lmao. Leave the X-men name alone. Weird hill for her to go to battle on, but hey, we all have issues.

But now it seems they just can't get out of their own way.
I said it before and I'll say it again. Feige has too much on his plate and things will never resolve until they fix that problem first. Everything else is just Disney/Marvel scapegoating.

I'm not so sure it's scapegoating though. Some specific areas have been subpar. Feige has been great for Disney, but clearly, he's got too much on his plate. And for all the talk of threads trying the MCU across the movie and TV side, I'm not really seeing it all mesh together in a cohesive story. Maybe that's a byproduct of being in early stages of the current phase. Maybe they'll flesh it all out more soon.
