I didn't think the article was fair to Brees. He basically implied that Brees was uninformed. I think Duncan should have discussed the issue with Brees before slamming his comments in that article. Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the only one who got to explain their side in that article was Duncan. It was a classic gotcha piece.
I think I'm about half way here... the same double edged sword that impaled many a famous athelete swings swiftly here... if you are a famous athelete and the face of your team yet you use that for political discourse then I think you've opened yourself to all criticism--- there is no such thing as fair.

I don't expect fair. But several posters here said the article was fair. I disagree. Brees was giving his opinion based on his visit there and in support of our troops. He wasn't getting all political. Duncan did that on his own.

I know Jeff does good work for SR and the Saints in general. ...

Jeff may post occasionally on sr.com, but his work is for the T-P, not this site nor the Saints. That said, he has every right to disagree with Drew, just as each of us is entitled to our opinion on the subject. Personally, I prefer to have a beat writer who isn't going to kow-tow to everything coming out of Saints' camp....jmho.

He didn't make any opinion besides he was surprised that it did not get more attention.

My opinion is I don't take much credit to anyhting besides football players talking about football and sportswriters writing about sports.

Move on...

I know Jeff does good work for SR and the Saints in general. That being said I am glad to know that he is such an open minded liberal that when Drew Brees says something he disagrees with he feels it is his job to talk about what a "bad pass" he just threw. Blow it out of your *** Jeff, this is still American for a while and we still have our rights to our own opinions. Drew is my HERO!!!!!!

wow aren't you confused. When Duncan writes something you disagree with he is a bad person... despite it being his job to write his opinions. He disagrees with Brees on this issue (so do I) so he writes about it, thats what he gets paid to do. Believe it or not, just because Brees is a great QB and great all around human being doesn't mean all of his opinions are right and no one can disagree with it. Grow up...

Yea this is still a America, and we do still have our rights to our own opinions, so stop trying to take away Duncan's for commenting on Drew's. Good Lord!

Let them both have their say. No one needs to apologize for anything. When people speak their mind in a public forum it invites criticism. It is actually a good dialogue for us to have - Are the conditions at Gitmo truly a hell hole? Or is Gitmo being used as a political tool to herd the sheeple? I suspect the truth lies in between the extremes.

I do wonder if Jeff Duncan has been to Gitmo, however. It is clear that Drew has. If Jeff hasn't actually witnessed the conditions himself, it is reasonable to classify his analysis as being more saturated with his political bias and personal values. This is no reason to censor him or force an apology, but the bias dilutes the force of his argument.

The only opinions here are of people who think that a fairly written piece is biased.

I wish for a world where people had reading comprehension and critical thinking skills...

Neither Duncan NOR Drew got political. That's my point.

Wow, Jeff is taking some serious heat from this from his readers.

Hell no. He can write anything he wants if it's not slanderous and apologize for nothing.

Aren't opinion and bias one in the same?

They're similar but not the same. A bias is (in this case,) when a persons opinion on something creeps into their writing or speech patterns. It's a perfectly legitimate thing in that kind of news editorial setting. It's only a bad thing if a bias starts leaking through what is being advertised as a purely information reporting kind of story or news show.

Now that's a whole other can of worms in and of itself and while it's an interesting discussion, it doesn't fit in with this screaming fest at a guy for sharing an opinion that dares make show the king of New Orleans in a less than golden light.
