Soooo when is it NOT Fire Season??? Franklin fire in Malibu CA (14 Viewers)

Maybe crab people

I say the homeless because a small fire was started here in SD a few days ago in a field. An amazon driver noticed it and called the FD immediately. It was a small homeless camp and they had abandoned their things (who knows if plans were made to return to it later, when they bail to seek drugs and get high, often forget where they left all their ish)

The last two days I've heard so many "experts" down here in Baldwin County, Alabama explain exactly what is going wrong in California with the fire water.

My wife's friend - who has a masters in social work but watches a lot of TV news - posted this expose about how the "science of forestry is real!" and that fuel reduction (which she mislabeled as 'controlled burning') in forests is essential wildfire protection something something Gavin Newsom *sad face emoji*

Never mind tha the Pallisades Fire started out as a brush fire in the chaparral above a developed area in the urban limits of Los Angeles County . . . not a freakin' forest.

California gets a lot of hate from other states. A LOT. It is not without its issues - no place is. But most of the hate is undeserved and from people who have never stepped foot in the state. Whenever I see some bogus or overly simplistic comment about it, it's almost ways from a person talking out of their depth about topics they haven't invested in learning much about or have experience in. It's also notable to mention the hypocrisy in these people outraged at California while refusing to call out their own state government for their own shortcomings.

I saw someone rage-posting about Governor Newsome reducing funding for the LA Fire Department while increasing spending for the police, etc. and I had to just shake my head because basic knowledge in civics, which most people on the internet don't possess, would tell them that the governor has no say in how a city budget is dispersed and the mayor of a city does not report to the governor.

so a little more on this whole LA/MAyor/Insurance company thingy

So apparently back in late 2023/early 2024, the insurers started to warn folks about the issue of clearing underbrush from surrounding areas in the hills or they would start to cancel/non-renew coverage. So folks naturally turned to LA to let them know this and to start the process.

Apparently, this according to my friend who lives in Hancock Park, sparked a pretty heated debate between Mayor and residents. Mayor said residents should pay for it. Residents said LA should pay for it. Meanwhile 12-18 months goes by and nothing is getting done, so insurers said "we told yall- now we out" and started non-renewals. Residents were like " pay prisoners $10/day and clear it all out". ( instead of residents having to hire bushhogging companies to do the work for 10x the cost )

Just posting a snippet of conversation we had Saturday when i called to check up on them.

There are only 11 states that pay more in to the federal coffers than they take out of it. On "balance of payments" California is the #1 net payor state and #2 on a per-capita basis.

I saw a comment from someone in Florida whose argument (comments on a post arguing) was "well where I live, my governor calls all the shots!"

I don't argue online on random sites like Twatter, IG, etc. because 90% of the people are uneducated boot lickers but I do read comments and shake my head a lot.

I don't know if it's always been like this (and I didn't notice) or the uneducated, but opinionated citizenry is on a massive flex of "dumb arse takes".
