Stevie Ray Vaughan is the G.O.A.T. Change my mind (1 Viewer)

Aww. Wasn't trying to call you out or anything. I just remember literally saying one time to somebody while in the MIDST of the whole New Wave electronic genre that dominated and defined that decade that '80s music was disposable. Sure, we still remember and sing it but it became more about style of dress than substance of musicianship.

You can never do wrong with me.

Let's hold hands and watch My Girl.

I think this is pointless because they both wish they were Tony Levin.

Tony Levin is hands down the best bass player I have ever seen. It is not even close. I have seen Les in many different groups he is great. Oysterhead was pretty forking amazing. Was not close to Levin with king crimson.

The first time I saw flea was at Jimmy's and saw him many times. Fun yes I never thought the greats ever.

That 80s version of king crimson by far my fav.

It was physically exhausting to try and keep up with what was going on on stage.

OMG bill bruford and Tony levin on the same stage was a dream. Belew and fripp what more can you say.

In fact the second time I saw them I stayed sober so I could pay better attention.
How about Getty Lee and Les Claypool on the same stage?

Claypool and Sean Lennon had a band called Delirium. Getty played with them for a short minute. In the link below they do Tomorrow Never Knows. At one point, about the 9:20 mark, Claypool is doing a solo and Getty fades into the background. Then Claypool just stops and the bass line continues in perfect synch as Getty steps into the spotlight continuing to play Claypool's solo. Cool stuff and great bass work by 2 of the best.

So, when you talk bass I think you have to put Lee and Entwistle into the conversation along with folks like Claypool (my opinion, he's the best) and Levin. But Flea? Fun, good, but not a great, imo.

And if anyone has an interest in the history of the bass instrument, check out Getty Lee's book "Big Beautiful Book of Bass".

And one more before the link:
Lets put Carol Kaye into the conversation. Known primarily for her work in The Wrecking Crew, she was the ultimate professional. You may not know who she is, but you've heard her thousands of times on hit records from the '60s & '70s. A lot of famous bass lines from those records were her invention.

Thanks. However, I never aspired to play the guitar. I am a stifled drummer.

No way?!?! Drums are cool, I just got a set last year. Ever since I got my drum set, my appreciation of drummers has skyrocketed. Drummers are the hardest working in a band, it's like a work out playing drums. The timing is crazy also. You got to have like 4 minds.

What songs do you jam to? Sue, if you say, anything from Nirvana I wouldn't be surprised.

Sue and her very balance and light hearted approach on life. She also knows her goats.
Heh. Sue WAS my go-to fake name for my friends to call me when meeting rando guys who we didn't want knowing our real names. True story.

I like you.

But step away.

I only air drum, sadly. But, I mean, I'm sure we've all air drummed to Wipe Out and THAT part in Something in the Air Tonight.
