That Derek Carr Contract is Looking Pretty Brilliant Now (2 Viewers)

And every other team deals with injuries as well. They can suck it up, straighten out the cap and pay for better depth, or keep doing what they are doing, that’s working.
Not at the level we are, and those that are aren’t 3-1 or 4-0 right now either.

Injuries matter. Period. You fight through them and try to get healthy.

That was such a poorly executed play all around. Judon was on him in less than a second and Carr had nowhere to go with it. He probably could have held it and taken a sack, but how often do passes get batted like that in the backfield? It was likely going to Olave's feet if it had gotten around Judon.

Judon came totally free so yeah he had no chance. Ideally I'd like him to either throw it at Judon's feet or just try to run forward to the LoS and fall down, but he probably was trying to throw it around Judon to the ground and what happened essentially never happens so I'm probably being a bit harsh on Carr there. But, somebody messed up the play execution for Judon to come that fast and that free on a screen.

Yeah, but throwing it at Judon's feet would have drawn an intentional grounding flag for 5 yards and a loss of down. So that wasn't really an option either. I think we're very much missing McCoy out there and a protection call was missed.

How stupid do the Raiders look now? They benched this dude for a nobody
Take it from a Raiders fan since 1981. The dude is just good enough to get your hopes up, only to dash them to pieces. Look at the start of the 2021 season for instance. He has passing yards of 409, 373, and 357 to start out with. Then the next two games he had 165 and 188. Then he had 340 and 323. Then he closed out the regular season with 230, 182, 241, and 172, all wins by the Raiders. But in those four games he had 5 TD and 4 INT, which shows it was not he that led them to the playoffs, but Josh Jacobs and the defense.

Carr is good from the 20 to the 20, but he struggles mightily in the red zone. He threw for 4804 yards, but only 23 TD. That's roughly 1.5 TD per game, and he's getting paid way too much for that. In fact, he's only had one season of 30 + TD and that as in 2015, his second year in the league.

Let me give you two examples of Carr quitting. In 2018 they were down 20-6 to the Chargers with less than 6 minutes to go in the game. They were around the Chargers 20 and on 4th down, the play they called got blown up. Instead up throwing the ball up for a player to potentially make a play, he threw it at the feet of his RB, I think it was Jalen Richard. Then in 2019 they were down to the Titans 42-21 with less than five minutes left in the game and on 4th down, instead of throwing the ball up for a player to potentially make a play, he tosses it out of the endzone. The Chargers game they had a decent shot as a TD makes it 20-13 with around 3-4 minutes left, but the Titans game, there was no shot at winning, but to just either toss it into the ground or out of the endzone on 4th down is inexcusable.

He would rather be efficient than try to make a play and possibly toss an INT. He also said at a presser once he was there to mess up draft boards. No, clown!!! You're there to win games and especially championships.

Raiders fans said the same thing when he was our QB. They said he needed an offensive line, he needed WR's, he needed RB's. They got him all those and he led them to ONE winning season. If a QB needs all that to succeed, that team needs a QB. As much as it loathes me to say it, Mahomes dragged that team to the championship in 2023. He had very little at QB, but they won in spite of them.

I haven't looked at the play again, but according to Underhill it was Juwan Johnson that missed the block on Judon that let him come free. That's two big mental mistakes from Johnson yesterday.

Any Raiders fan who comes over here just to tell us how bad Carr was has a serious problem. It would be like me posting on a Broncos message board about Sean Payton. I like my QBs better than yours. Have fun with Minshew and O’Connell.

That can be said for any mid tier qb.

This is such nonsense. If players didn’t matter and it was all about depth, teams wouldn’t pay starters so much.

You can only have so much depth. We went out there today with injuries everywhere and were a pass interference call and 58 yard FG from winning a tough road divisional game.
You are right to an extent. Some starters are paid handsomely bc they have big play ability or the ability to create certain mismatches. Although, every team should rely on their depth bc role players (who know their roles and executes them) are really the unsung heroes, that tend to help win the battle. The Niners are a prime example. Those dudes somehow pay all of their stars huge money, but when those guys go down, they have someone who steps right in, and does an admirable job. Like they always can believe in the next man up. Something that we can’t say the same for unfortunately
