That Derek Carr Contract is Looking Pretty Brilliant Now (1 Viewer)

People hating on Carr or blaming him for this loss are weird.

And wrong.
It comes with territory when you're the QB. That said,, we lost a close game to our main division rival and that's not really a big deal.

You are right to an extent. Some starters are paid handsomely bc they have big play ability or the ability to create certain mismatches. Although, every team should rely on their depth bc role players (who know their roles and executes them) are really the unsung heroes, that tend to help win the battle. The Niners are a prime example. Those dudes somehow pay all of their stars huge money, but when those guys go down, they have someone who steps right in, and does an admirable job. Like they always can believe in the next man up. Something that we can’t say the same for unfortunately
The 49ers are 2-2 after suffering their slew of injuries this year. Exactly what we are.

And I would argue we did well with "next man up" yesterday. Despite all the injuries we were a PI call and 58-yard FG away from beating a division rival on the road.

It's not like we are getting blown out. Kubiak deserves a lot of credit for how he coached yesterday.

Well, this is not just a “this year” reference to the Niners. They have sustained success for years, with their backups holding down the fort.

I have zero issues with KK so far. He’s done wonders with this roster. He’s not the coach that I still have reservations about

I said Carr was streaky, and I was right. He had a streak of 9 completions in a row in the first half, and another streak of 9 in the 2nd half.

All seriousness aside, he had a good game yesterday, and that's without our C and best G. Carr's Achilles is dealing with the pass rush, but he's been better lately.

I haven't looked at the play again, but according to Underhill it was Juwan Johnson that missed the block on Judon that let him come free. That's two big mental mistakes from Johnson yesterday.
Doesn’t look like it at a glance, I don’t see how he even gets a hand on Judon from his alignment, and likely just runs into Fuaga if he tries. He tried to pick up the CB that he was likely supposed to block, overall just looks like the Falcons were all over this play call.

Bro had less than 2 seconds to react after Johnson missed his block.

He pump faked and tried sidearming it.

bagging on the QB on this play is BEYOND unreasonable.

IDK why no one is walking about how olave literally gave up on trying to tackle or even push the guy and just let him have the TD.

But they gonna bag on Carr?!?!

Not sure I agree on the KK stuff. A lot of tosses for losses yesterday particularly in second half where we were on the edge of fg range and pushed us back to punt.

Well Olave was out there gutting out an injury to help us win, I have mad respect for what he did yesterday because he looked like he was in a lot of pain. I didn’t see him on the play giving up but this all happened so fast it’s hard to judge.

Looking at it, I may have misunderstood what Underhill meant. I tought he meant he blew the block on Judon (he said missed the block, not missed the block on Judon) but you are right he isn't close to Judon.

Johnson blew the block on #20 who then broke in front of Olave which is what caused Carr to double clutch. If Johnson makes that block, it looks like Carr may have had just enough time to get the ball off to Olave before Judon gets there.

But, I'm not sure why the play left Judon that free. You would think either Patrick or Fuaga should have chipped him before going out to block on the screen. But yeah, either Atlanta knew what was coming or they just got lucky and made a play call that was perfect to blow up the play.

Although if Johnson makes that block, Olave might have a lot of open space to run in.

He's a QB that thrives in this Kubiak offense.

Too bad for injuries. Really deflating early season. The difference is... this is a team IF HEALTHY that can win road playoff games.

To bad we couldn't keep Winston though.. what is he.. 4th on Browns Depth chart now?

I mean, after seeing the full shot of the play, there really was nothing that Carr could do.

But, Olave was out their with an injured hamstring making plays. He even ran all the way across the field there to even get close to #44 near the endzone. It wasn't much of an effort to tackle, but it took a lot of effort to even get there and he's clearly not a good tackler and #44 probably has 60 Lbs. on him. I don't think he was taking him down or pushing him out of bounds anyway. And it looked like what he tried to do was knock the ball out.

There were lots of other guys just standing around not giving as much effort as Olave gave to try to run the guy down.
