It wound up not being a factor in the overall outcome of the game, but it extended the drive for the Giants and led to a FG.

The tackle by Taylor was textbook. He led with the shoulder, moved his head to the side, and went right through the receiver. You can't ask for a better tackle. Calling that ridiculousness of a penalty on 3rd and 22 was complete horse manure.

I'm with Bill Belichick - make everything reviewable. I don't care whether it's a judgment call, or if it's in an instant call (like Dean Blandino explained), they should get it right or at least have a tool for coaches to use to reverse this kind of egregious call.

Officials should be fined for garbage like that

I agree. I’m normally pretty even-keeled during the games no matter what’s happening, but I may or may not have drop-kicked the Christmas tree after that call. :covri:

Just have a team of 'elite' refs looking at any questionable flag in a control room in New York. They have access to all the replays and angles. They can call the head ref on any flag and overturn the call on the field.

It isn't rocket science. This could be fixed in one weekend.

The best idea I heard for this was from Pat Kirwin (I think) and he suggested that almost retired or retired refs who are unable to handle the physical demands of being on the field could be the eye in the sky since they are the ones with the most experience.

They made up for it when they kept the flag in their pocket on the hit to Cutlets where he flopped and earned himself a trip to the blue tent.

But yes, that flag could have been picked up and should have.

On that same drive. The game moved within 2 minutes of the half. The giants have 1 timeout with about 46 seconds left in the half. Devito gets hit, it’s then ruled there was no foul. Then Devito goes to the tent. Why did the clock remained stopped and why did the Giants get to keep their timeout? Is that only at the end of the game?

They should have a pool of reserve refs so that if one ref screws up a call like that, they’re deactivated the next week and they pick from the “pool” to replace them for the next game.
You can't blame the ref for making that call in live play. You can blame the officials in New York, however, for not reviewing it and having them pick the flag up.
