The Science of Fasting (3 Viewers)

This may be a perfect time to do a long fast after a rough November and December :covri:
No doubt! I packed on about 22 pounds after carelessly drinking and eating my way thru a stressful Oct/Nov/Dec...I am lucky that my metabolism still functions well. I am doing my usual no-alcohol Jan/Feb and just starting to do some smaller fasts. Started with 2 days this week. Doing 3 days next week...hoping to build up to a couple true 6-7 day ones by Feb.

I am planning on a 5 day next week. Spending this week doing low calorie and carb OMAD to prep for it

Saw this thread pop up in the feed & immediately thought “let me go look and see who got fat” lol

I didn’t get fat but Nov + Dec was particularly out of control food & alcohol wise. Due to so many holidays and holiday parties, etc.

I did get back on a meal prep delivery service again about a month ago for 2 reasons:

1. Control over my daily calorie intake without having to measure everything (they come with the macros already listed)
2. Since I wfh & hate leftovers, I felt like all I was ever doing was cooking and cleaning the kitchen.

So now I get lunch & dinner 5 days per week, make my own breakfast and food on weekends. Has been so clutch for time saving.

My willpower was like the French military when Germany invaded in WW2 especially when it came to the pecan pie

I rarely listen to any videos 30+ minutes or more so I was shocked I stayed with this 2 hour interview. Thanks for sharing.
His wife has some excellent casts as well. Diary of a CEO is another good long form pod.

Just watched DoaC's interview of Ann Lambke about her book Dopamine Nation. Phenomenal and everyone should watch if they want to understand the driving force behind many brain actions and how it's been hijacked by current day tech.

I have a random question for this group. I kind of figure this is a good place to put health and fitness related stuff so apologies if it's detracting from the purpose.

There is lots of information 'out there' suggesting that all you need is to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight - which is kind of true - and that if you're lifting weights and in a calorie deficit, you'll lose weight and lean out.

This is not the case for me. I will easily pack on muscle and I won't get fatter but I will not lean out. I just pack on muscle, retain my fat and that's it - unless I also incorporate a good amount of cardio. Why? I guess it's just irritating to me to hear "just lift and eat in a calorie deficit and you'll lean out" - not for me.

Well, I don't have an answer; but for decades "experts" made it as easy as "calorie in, calorie out" when it clearly isn't. We as a nation are more sedentary, that's true enough; but it's also the difference in the quality of our "food" and the "one size fits all" advice. Our goals are all different and our bodies are all different ... and then there's evolutional adapations and hormones. So for women, I think it's always going to be an uphill battle to one extent or another.

Have you ever gotten a DEXA scan for body fat composition?
